The following email was recently sent to the motorcycle rider list at work...

Ok riders, I am pretty much a beginner rider. I have ridden my friends bikes many many times and I feel extremely comfortable on a bike. I like to ride aggressive and I love as much torque and power as I can get. I am not bent on getting a super powerful bike but those who have ridden tell me "just get the bike you want from the get go because no matter what you will get used to the power in no time." I found a 2003 GSXR 1000 for my price range and color I want. Is it too much bike for me to handle?

Can anyone say "CRASH!" :dribble: This guy is listening to all the wrong people as a "Beginner Biker". You should find him and give him some good pointers before he ends up in traction with a really badly busted up Gixxer.

Hello, Mr. I-want-in-over-my-head, my name is Charles Darwin - have we met?

LOL.....try to get some video of this guy if/when he buys a 1000 Gixxer, I would estimate you'd onl;yt have to film for a minute or two to get some prime you tube stuff. You're right....it's good to know Darwin is alive and well.

I got dubs on "named beneficiary"... :yahoo:

I have a friend whose first bike was an FJR. 65,000 miles later, the bike's never been on its side. Big bikes and the ability to control one are not mutually exclusive.

However, statistically speaking, it'd be fun to watch. :)

I seem to remember this guy in high school who bought a big Norton.

(Norton's were big and fast back than)

I always wanted a V-Max, so that was the first bike I ever bought. I had ridden a total of a few hundred miles on other peoples bikes before I bought the Max. Learned a lot on that bike, like most importantly it only does what you tell it to. Trick is to start out slow, and not think you are going to keep up with everyone right out of the gate.

Same-o same-o

Knew a guy in high school and his parents bought one for him - 1967 Road Atlas (750cc) which was, at that time a "big" motorcycle. Killed himself on the thing after about a month's worth of "experience".

Just about any bike can be a "first bike' if ridden with some sense - but, the throttle usually gets the best of newbies and they gotta twist it all the way too much.

Hey ......lets not be draggin skeltons out of the closet now! (Mine was a 67 Atlas as well, featherbed frame, magneto and all)

Yeah big bikes, newbies, and survivability are not necessarily directly related ---BUT, a Newbie + Gixxer 1000 = Hurt, pain, or worse, it just a matter of time.

speaking of n00bs on bikes, did anyone ever catch the episode of pinks on speed or spike (no i don't watch it, a friend showed me...seriously :p ) where some tool jumped on a GSX-R 1k and binned it in about 20-30 feet?
