I know it kinda short notice, but if you are interested, this is not an organized group ride unless you want to form your own group. I'll be leaving from Napa and will post my start location and time later in the week.

RIDE TO EAT- EAT TO RIDE"

DUAL DESTINATION RIDES

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th, 2006

Lunch: 1 pm & Dinner: 7 pm

Who? You! You and your wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend/kid(s) or grandkid(s)!

What? Two destination rides in one day!

Double your pleasure, double your fun; join us for both or join us for one!

When? Sunday, 9/24/06... the first Sunday in our new Autumn!

Where? Lunch: North Coast Brewing Company, 455 North Main Street, Fort Bragg, California

Dinner: Eel River Brewery Company, 1777 Alamar Way, Fortuna, California

Why? ‘Cause we ride to eat, eat to ride!

How? Get there by any route you choose, preferably on your motorcycle.

Other details:

• Please RSVP if you plan to make either venue (or both). I would like to give the restaurants a heads up if the group gets to be more than a few of us. RSVP to: <[email protected]>, put “Dual RTE” in the email title,or simply reply on the forum

• Overnight – Some will be staying at the Comfort Inn in Fortuna @ 1583 Riverwalk Drive, Fortuna, California, Phone: (707) 725 7025. (It’s walking distance to the Eel River Brewery, if you choose to drink).

• Your route choices between Fort Bragg and Fortuna include California SR1, Alderpoint Road, Avenue of the Giants, and for the adventurous, Mattole Road. Monday morning, California SR 36. Heck, get to Fortuna early, and ride 36 out and back before dinner if you wish.

• Everyone should ride at his/her own pace.

Hope to see a few of you there.

Can't make it that weekend, but the Eel River Brewery is a great destination, enhanced by the proximity of lodging, outstanding ale and some reasonably hot waitresses (the last observation made as of July 3, 2005).

Having last ridden this area in June 2006, let me warn you about Alderpoint Road. I rode it between 36 and Garberville on the XX, and it is NOT in great condition. In some places, there were heaves in the asphalt that are unmarked, and when asphalt has 8 or 10 inch vertical displacements surprising you in the middle of the riding surface, it does not make for fun. The road's certainly passable, but I'd avoid it.

OTOH, the section of Hwy.1 from where it leaves the coast to where it hits 101 was newly surfaced and quite possibly the best set of twisties I've ridden anywhere -- the kind where your left right left weaving can fall into a quick tight rhythm for 10 or 12 turns in a row. Ear to ear grins.

Have fun and ride safe.
