I'm signed up for the ride. Two or my friends want to sign up for the twisty butt but NOT for the SFO meeting. Can they sign up for twisty butt WITHOUT the SFO meeting?

Hi Howard,
No, I'm sorry, I'm afraid not. This SFO ride is part of our rally and for our rally attendees. Your friends are more than welcome to come to the dinners with us, since there is no "meeting". I've never had a limit on how many guests someone can bring. I know your already bringing your wife, but your friends need to eat dinner each night too right? Just let me know who they are when they register and we'll be good to go. Then they can get the hotel discount too!

Thanks for the quick response. But, just to be clear--if they do sign up as my guest, then can they ride the twisty butt? Even though one of them is a BMW?

Yes, absolutely!! I certainly understand that guests will not be showing up on FJRs. Because of limitations with the software, just have them register individually and pick 03 for their model year FJR and use your forum name. If you'll give me a heads up on their names, then I can verify what's going on. They could put their bike's make and model in the guest's name spot too. Hope this all makes sense, let me know if they need help.

Yes, the file shows the appropriate 528 miles when loaded in mapsource. When I upload it to my garmin unit, the calculated route states 586 miles. Grrr.... I wish there was a way to force a route and not force a series of waypoints which allows multiple units to calculate the route on their own.

The upload on mine worked fine. It shows 529 miles with 10 viapoints. I hope that's correct... Someone chime in if this doesn't sound right..

Guys I'll look into this and see what I can figure out, but I'll warn you, I really like to ride motorcycles but I suck at this Garmin/download crap!

Wahoooo!!!! I figured out my GPS error. In my general routing preferences, I had a route avoidance setup to avoid unpaved roads. Ms. Garmin had me deviating off of several parts of this route. I eliminated this route preference and I get a route of 528 miles with a time to complete of 12:40. Now..... I need to get myself signed up for this TBA ride.

The SFO TBA ride was a great personal success. Andyman and I stuck together and worked our way from the end of the pack to being the first two non-event organizers to finish.
POP #1 set the theme for the day. Rain, fog, and wet roads persisted throughout the day. In general, the roads were in good condition. Having had a few days of decent rains had washed most of the oily film off of the roads, leaving mostly water and a few gravel flows to look out for as long as you stayed off of any paint and tar snakes.
POP #2 above was an old one lane iron bridge where, as a pair of non-smokers, we passed a couple of our peers.
POP #3, the Stone County Courthouse in Mtn. View, was begging us to take a bit of a break.
So we stopped at this pharmacy which we were later told was an old whore house.
Next, we were off to Push Mountain Road. Clicky here for pictures of the TBA clan passing by on this beautiful day.

At the end of the Push Mountain Road, we had to snag a picture of the bridge and then do a u-turn and run the road again. Following Garmin, we ran up to the stop sign at the end of the road a few tenths of a mile away and then made the return trip. It was a wonderfully laid ribbon of road with little traffic, in part due to the inclement weather. Either way, it was a blast to run.
Next POP, the Timbo grocery. They had hot chicken sandwiches ready-made, so we took a few minutes to scarf down some eats while standing over our bikes.
POP #6 was the school in Mt. Judea. I only found two kids at play, but we didn't stick around long.
And our final POP was the Kingston town square.
Leaving at 0600 and returning at 1630, we were extremely pleased with the run. Andyman, spending most of his riding time in the midwest, and myself, spending most of my riding time in the desert southwest, and never experienced this magnitude of twisty riding. It was extremely fun and challenging. We maintained a margin of safety, did not earn any performance awards, and now are both certified TBA members. I had intention of taking pictures of the ride itself, but the terrain did not allow safe picture taking while moving at an efficient pace. Maybe next year I'll have a camera mount to make this easier.
My favorite parts.... Hwy 123 running north off of Hwy 7. I know it sounds cheesy, but I'm also extremely pleased to see that everyone made it back in one piece despite one biker's ditch ride.

I do have to add one more shot. I went into this on a PR2 that had experienced all of it's life on DFW area metro roads. Here is a shot of what my tire looked like when I landed at home. Look at the leading edge of the tread line on the lateral margins of the tire. Holy crap! When I left for SFO there was some virgin rubber still present. Now the leading edge has worn down significantly from the numerous of hard, heavy lean angle curvy roads. The organizers weren't kidding when they strongly emphasized having good rubber before this run.

Glad you enjoyed the ride and TBA experience. Completing the route in those wet road conditions is certainly an accomplishment. Maybe next time we can run it with dry roads and sunny and 70 weather. Welcome to the club and c'ya at the next one,

If the Dragon is the 100 yard dash of twisties, the T.B.A. route during SFO was the Marathon. And what a run it was. Although I love the handling of a short distance Sport bike, I believe my brother(worldbound4now), the T.B.A. route, and of course the people at SFO have made me really feel good about my new to me (two months ago) FJR. Thanks!!! :yahoo:

Yall guys did real good and you met the challenge. I'll assure you there are very few riders who go out and ride a route like this in 1 day, and on top of that ride it in the rain! Thats badass boys!

Even tho Brian and I didn't make the cut because of the time (YES, IT WAS MY FAULT FOR ONE REALLY BAD WRONG TURN AND ONE NOT SO BAD WRONG TURN) this was one spectacular ride!
