Is there anything the forum can do to help Cindy and/or Ian? (I mean, other than sending prayers/karma/energy.) Do they need anything we can provide?
Anyone have an extra FJR lying around for when Ian gets out of the hospital?
Right now there is not much anyone can do other than to send best wishes. If I end up doing a roadtrip to help install Andy's new tire I will stop in to see how Ian is coming along and provide a progress report.

Bill, it's a good and nice thing you are doing. Ian is such a nice guy. I still proudly fly the two flags he gave me, Canada, USA on my top trunk.

Was in Toronto today to visit with Ian for a bit. He is in much better spirits and is doing a little bit of physio but still does not have much use of the right shoulder and the right leg is still immobilized. He is at least able now to get out of bed with assistance and sit in a wheelchair but is still not very mobile due to his injuries.

Ian is talking about replacing the bike since the parts estimate to replace the damaged components on the FJR came to $23,000 (yes that is correct, twenty three thousand dollars). It was good to hear that Ian was at least thinking about replacing the bike this time since the last time I visited shortly after to accident Ian was thinking about giving up on bikes at that time. Just an indication of how hard the collision was the impact was enough to crack the engine block and the car's side mirror is imbedded in the FJR's rad.

For those not on the mailing list Ian & Cindy sent out this e-mail....

Hey,
Things have settled down some, so you haven’t heard from us as frequently. But here it is, Saturday night of the long weekend, and we’re stuck in the hospital, bored. So, it’s time for an update.
I can say “us” now because Ian’s coherent enough to participate in this update. He’s now able to spend a few hours a day in a wheelchair, although he can’t propel himself anywhere. He gets outside occasionally with friends at the wheel. He’s getting more adept at using the left hand in the cast, so he’s mastered brushing his teeth and eating some foods. Right leg still in a splint, right shoulder still immobile in a sling. Ribs are healing nicely, shoulder incision had the staples removed but it’s still weeping.
As the pain meds diminish, he’s regaining some concentration and alertness – enough to be bored with his limited choice of activities. With the tablet touchscreen computer he’s able to be in touch with the outside world. We’ve purchased a portable DVD player to watch videos (because the download speed of the hospital internet won’t allow streaming).
Friends have been stopping by, which is much appreciated.
With the kids at their grandmother’s, I managed my agreed-upon 2.5 days of work this week.
Ian feels he’s getting a little better every day, but it seems likely he’ll be here (at rehab) for another month at least. We are returning to the St. Mike’s trauma centre for an appointment with Ian’s surgeon next week. That will give us our first indication of how things are healing. Fingers crossed.Cindy & Ian

Thanks for the update, Bill. I'm still a bit swamped, but soon hope to get out that way and visit the young feller......

Thanks for the update Bill!

Now that Ian is more coherent and responsive (thank God!) and keep it going!! ...maybe soon we can expect him back on here? Like bring him his laptop or iPad?.. I'm sure it would help his sanity especially if he was here again with us morons :)

I'm headed down to T.O for the Lee Parks course this coming weekend. I'll stop by.

I'm down in Toronto for the Lee Parks Level 2 course tomorrow and swung by to see Ian. My god the traffic sucks down here and smells funny too.

I got there only to remember I didn't write down the room and even forgot his last name! You know what its like after a riding all day. I'm lucky if I remember my name! Anyway, I gave Moosehead a call and he checked the forum. No last name, no room number. So the guy at reception was really helpful. Said they had one Ian, last name starts with 'M'...

Nothing. Total blank.

Then he said Rotten Ronnies. MacDonald!

Anyway, after a little embarassment I got up to see him. His wife and son were there visiting as well. He's looking pretty good, but you can officially call him zipper knee, zipper shoulder and zipper wrist. We yacked for about 2 hours, and if you know Ian, when he gets on a roll, he can really get talking. I kept hoping the nurse would pop in so I could suggest some another morphine drip for him. Maybe then I could get a word in edgewise LOL! Poor guy is bored as ****!

Naturally, we spent the entire 2 hrs talking about bikes. I'm pretty sure you'll see Ian riding again. He's got a bit of a road to get back to his old self though. I'm sure if you're in the area, he'd love to see anybody just to pass some time with.

Get well bud!

Hey all, thanks for all the positive vibes and well wishes. Really do appreciate the in person visits, thank you to those that are able to accommodate that, and sorry for talking your ears off (but you must have known that was going to happen).

I till in rehab hospital and it looks like it's going to be sometime yet before I can leave. I'm still only working with one functional limb, and that one is not 100% (left leg).

The bikes a write off, but I did pay the dealer to remove some aftermarket stuff that wasn't damaged. I'll not know what that is until I'm home and can check the stuff out.

So best wishes to all, thanks again for your support, and hoping I'll be back on two wheels in the new year.

I just had a nice chat with Ian. He prevailed and had the abductor sling (right arm) and splint (left arm) removed today - a week early. He undergoes physio every day, and with one leg non-weight bearing and the other one only minimally weight-bearing, he's non-ambulatory :(

Ian very much appreciates the Well Wishes so keep 'em coming!

Carpe diem my friends and be careful out there ....

Thanks for the update Mem... :)

Go Shakin' !!!!

Can't keep a good man down. I hear those 2013's are kinda nice...

Charlie gave me a get well present for Ian so I'll be heading back into Toronto in the near future to drop it off. I couldn't get both the truck & trailer past the gate to get in the visitor's parking on Monday.

That pay for parking **** there... $12 bucks.... <grumble>

Since I am waiting on parts for the FJR and the cast is keeping me off the WR450 I took a road trip in the cage and went to see the other gimp today.....

The news today is that the doctors are now saying once the shoulder heals they may have to go back in and do some fairly major surgery to correct some misaligned components. Ian is getting a day pass to get out of the hospital to attend his son receiving his black belt in karate so Ian can't even tell the kid to get him a beer without getting his *** kicked now.
Needless to say Ian is bored looking out the hospital window but is still in good spirits all things considered. After saying hello I was not able to get a word in until the nurse brought lunch in. If you get a chance send him a PM or e-mail.
