I bought my FJR late last summer and it had about 4K miles on the odometer at the time. Previous owner had never had it to the shop for any service. I adjusted the steerer nut on it when I bought it because the triple tree was loose. I also did oil/filter/shaft. Then I crashed the bike in an Oil spill back in November... The bike really needed tires, and I figured it probably needed new plugs, a "sync" of the fuel system, and a proper adjustment of the steerer bearings.

So my mechanic is picking up the bike tomorrow. Fortunately he come to get the bike when it needs service... It's cold here and I really don't have the time to run it by... Be interested to see what he's gonna charge me for this. I already bought the PR2s from the deal posted elsewhere...

I'm not worried about an "estimate". My guy is "reasonable", not a "shop" and picks up my bike at my house. I'll happily pay a little more for the great service he's provided me to this point...

How many miles?

A TBS (Throttle Body Sync) is relatively simple and shouldn't be much time. And if you still want to change the plugs (which you really don't need to do), then they are right there also since the tank is already up for the TBS. Same for the head bearings - pretty straight forward.

I would strongly consider having him flush all hydraulic fluids (clutch and brakes) and also replace/flush the coolant. The general rule for both of those service items are 'every two years'. And once again, depending on miles, final drive fluid and air filter may be coming due. Though much of that you can do yourself.

I dropped mine at the shop yesterday for the following: (06 w/34,000 miles)

Change tires. (which I provided. Angel ST's.)

Check brakes. Replace pads if needed. (never done before)

Bleed the clutch and brake fluids. (never done before)

Change out anti-freeze.(never done before)

Check valves. Adjust if necessary.(never done before)

Worst case, my bill will be $1200 bucks.

With your mileage, a fork service might be a good idea.

I'm envious of the pay in VA. Having "a guy" and valet service is way too hoity toity for my wallet.

Just had Desert Valley Power Sports do a 24k valve check. A little past due at 39k, but all were in specs. Also had them put in a new tensioner while there. They put new plugs in a air filter, TPS, oil and filter, new coolant and a coule of other things I can't remember. $750.00, quite a bit, but from what I've seen here, feel good about the price.

The then asked me if I'd heard of a guy named Mat Watkins. Nope, now way, never met the guy. Anyone here heard of him. ;)

As a matter of fact, It's probably one of the best places in the country to be employed, but on to the matter at hand... I have two jobs and my limited free time is of great value to me. This guy who picks up my bikes, he charges me $50 for a pickup fee. When it's ready, I'll get my wife to drive me the 35 miles and I'll ride it back.

It's only got 4K miles on it, but the bike is going on 4 years old. I already did the drive shaft fluid and clutch fluid back last fall.

I'm expecting the bill to be $1000 or less.

4K miles in 3-4 years? Probably half the service cost is for the removal of cobwebs. (I understand the bike is almost new to you but this constitutes motorcycle abuse!)

I see you are from VA we are going to have a Tech Day 4/2 in Christiansburg VA hosted by Jeff Ashe. We are going over must of the things you are having done to your bike. I know you don't need it this time but next time around if you want to do some of the work yourself it would be a great time to learn. We posted the information on regional rides southeast. I hate paying for things I should be able to do myself.

Got the call today. Bike is ready for pickup. Bill? $307...Dave Pomey did his magic, again!

Flushed brake fluid

Changed both front and rear tire (I bought the PR2s on the special)

Retorque Steerer Bearing/ nut

Calibrate Fuel Injection

Change Plugs (Yea I didn't need them but what the hell)

$50 for pickup... Yea I splurged...

I'll pick it up tomorrow after my morning business meeting at my office.

Sounds like you got a good guy there. Support the hell out of him, and send him all the business you can. That is a deal. If you dont work on your own bike or just need something done in a hurry it is great to have someone like that around.

Enjoy man and great pricing.

Just took the bike for a ride today with four guys on concours and the bike rides and handles like a whole new machine... Smoother power deliver (fuel system sync and plugs I'm sure helped this) and did I mention the tires??? WOW...Really liked these tires on my old bike, a 99 ZRX1100... Really like these PR2s on the FJR. Can't say enough good about the work my wrench did for me for such little coin spent.

Before the meeting with the other four riders, I had to spend some time adjusting the shifter for my new boots (TCX Infinity) to clear the shifter. Took three tries to get it right. So after getting that resolved, I'm happy to report I love these boots and they worked well on the ride today...
