Should I see an MD, opthamologist or optometrist?

Good luck Marcos! keep us posted on the diagnosis. Little things can sometimes be warning signs of bigger problems. It's best to have it checked. Not long ago, within the past month, the little red headed freckle faced kid in my neighborhood growing up--44 years old now---he passed away from a massive heart attack while sitting on his back deck at home one afternoon. Found out that about two days before his legs unexplainely swelled. He brought it to the attention of his wife, he suffered from allergies and given the time of year--spring--they agreed it must have something to do w/the swelling. Anyway, apparently that was the wrong assumption, Dr. said the swelling of the legs was a sign of impending heart attack, why? how? I have no idea and cant explain much less understand. I have a physical every year, any sudden unexplained re-occurring physical change at my age--I'm getting it checked.

Well... I've checked it twice since yesterday at those little chair things in grocery stores and such. I'm usually around 110/70. Both times I came in right around 122/82. I started having yearly physicals about 3 yrs ago so at least they'll have a baseline for comparison. Wonder if I could wrangle this into some medical leave to give me some more seat time? :D

Been coughing, constipated? Really.

If what you are talking about is the white part of your eye it is USUALLY not a worry Good luck.

Hehe you can't help but read that and find it a bit funny, but no, no constipation or coughing to speak of. Can't think of any other activity that might cause a spike in internal psi either. I'm sure it's likely nothing.

Wish I had blood pressure like that. Mine is usually borderline high and has been since a teen.

130-140/80-90 is common for me.

When I was in the hospital with the collarbone and ribs it was 170/90 the nurses looked a little worried I could tell. Then I told them I was usually 130-140 and they figured it was ok.

I just had a friend die this past weekend who was under 40 from a heart attack. It can strike anyone so don't think it can't happen to you just because you are not 65 or whatever age you think is prime heart attack age.

Yeah, I used to think I'd live forever, but something about having kids and then seeing things happen to your friends sorta fixes that.

One other thing I forgot to mention. 90% happen while you are sleeping at night. People notice them when they are brushing their teeth or in TWN case when they are putting on their make-up. :D

Glenn

Tejas I would be a bit more concerned if they were happening in both eyes and or in another spot in the same eye.

Your not having any bleeding or other problems with the "other" eye are you? In that case a visit to the proctologist would be in order... :tease:

Any chance you are wearing an HJC helmet with the upper/lower vents, and riding with stock shield in a low position at 100+ mph?

If so, your helmet might be doing some damage.

My HJC will induce blurred vision and nausea after a 30-minute ride at high speeds. Luckily, I prefer the shield up.

I was going to ask about the whole sleeping thing. Seemed odd to wake up after having gotten some rest to find the red eye.

Not to stand in judgment or anything (who am I to?), but the first thing that would leap to my mind when contemplating whether or not to go to the doctor about burst blood vessels in my eyes would be: "How important to me is my vision?"

The reasonable response seems to flow from there.

I understand Bob, and actually the original question was one of who should I go see. From what I've read online and responses to this post, I'm actually more worried of having a Dr. tell me it's not big deal and try to send me on my merry way. Either way I'm planning to see my family doctor tomorrow and will likely schedule a visit to get my eyes examined sometime Saturday.

Well, as one of my relatives was wont to say, "Take my advice; I'm not using it." :D

Personally, I prefer another relative's quote: "The girls call me coffee 'cause I grind so fine." :hehe:

There are a million and one who think that it will never happen to them. I am an old ******* that has stayed alive by seeking the opinions of those who know more than I do. They are few and far between however. The lads that have spent 8 years boozing and having fun actually do a little studying in their chosen profession.

Thankfully some of them actually graduate with a little more knowledge than they went in there with.

Rare but fact!

These lads and lassies can help.

Get your *** into your MD's office ASAP!

Thanks everyone for your concern. I went to the Dr's office today and wouldn't you know it, my blood pressure was back down in the range it usually is, 115/70. I told him that earlier in the week it had been in the 122/82 ballpark but he didn't seem worried and said he'd like to have blood pressure like that. He seems to think it might be related to allergies. Perhaps my eyes are irritated enough that I rub them when I sleep and damage the same weakened blood vessel. The fact that it keeps happening in the same place seemed like good evidence of a weak spot. He gave me some allergy drops to put in my eyes to see if overall my eyes feel better. I told him I didn't think they felt bad now, but he said to give it a try. So... I'm going to try out the drops and see if it helps. I'm still going to see about getting a regular reading on my blood pressure and track it over time.

I told my wife that I shouldn't have gone out for a ride before going to the Dr since riding has a calming zen-like effect and I'd go in with a lower blood pressure and sure enough I did. I think the real answer is less work and more riding.

So there ya have it. Thanks again for all the replies. I'll keep close tabs on this for a while.

Ok, so it's been about 2 weeks... have you figured out what happeed yet?

If you havn't, an opthamologist is an MD, if I remember correcty... go see one anyway... most MD's really dont' know much about eyes... or teeth...<G>

I think I'm going to start to lose count of these things. I started using the eye drops (btw, they leave a nasty taste in your mouth) and really couldn't tell any kind of difference. Last Wednesday I got back to the hotel and found another one (my fourth) in the same spot but not quite as extensive. I called the Dr the next day, went back this last Friday and they drew blood and sent it off for testing. I guess the saga continues...

I think I'm going to try and find an opthamologist in the N. KY/Cincinnati area since I'm here 4 days a week. Anyone happen to live out in this area and have a recommendation?
