Skooter's right . Don't be the UGLY AMERICAN. Be polite, friendly and respectful, and you'll be fine. The locals along the coast are used to dealing with bikers all year long(Baja 500 and 1000). But on the safe side, remember you are in another COUNTRY.

If you are stoned, cruisin with a beer in your hand, thinking about how you spent your last 50 bucks(wife AND daughter), or nursing the wounds you received ASKING if you can **** his wife and daughter, you will deserve whatever the locals or Federales dish out. If you can drink, smoke and drive, so can everyone else. See those headlights comin at you in the distance?

Be cool and ride safe.

Oh, and by the way downn 2, if you think the US compares to Nazi Germany, why don't you go to Mexico and live. GET THE **** OUT BITCH- I DON'T WANT YOU HERE!

Oops, I'm sorry- did that sound harsh?

Yikes, all I wanna do is get some heads-up for a ride in Mexico. Is it possible to keep this thread on track without this turning into a personal attack fest? <_<

Cell phones: For crying out loud BBIII, mankind survived without cell phones for thousands of years! Just say NO to cell phones. Surely you can survive two weeks without the damned cell phone! Seriously, one thing about Mexico - they are on a different clock than us. Things there are a LOT slower and laid back. So get into the spirit of things or prepared to be frustrated. Cell phones? We don't need no stinkin cell phones. Ok, rant over, all the above being said, IIRC, my roommate's cell phone worked at every place we stopped for the night, I think. Don't know what service provider he had, or how much that was costing him, nor do I want to even think about it. All I know was that he was pleasantly surprised that it worked. Bah humbug!
The point I was trying to make was if you break down, or go down then you can expect to wait a long while to get help. WAFA

And my point is comparing our country to Nazi Germany because there are laws against driving drunk etc. is just plain stupid. To say it in a conversation might be one thing, when it slips out before you can catch it, but to write it in this forum where you have a chance to think about your message before you click reply is different. It IS nice to live in a country where you can say something stupid like that and the only consequence is pissing off some old guy though, isn't it?

My apologies for the hijack. Ride sensible and safe and you'll have a fine trip. Maybe this tip will help:

Call Temecula Motorsports. They run 4 or five teams in the 500 and 1000 every year.

They're down there twice a year for several weeks at a time.Jimmy McKay is their service mgr, and one of the bike team riders. He can tell you the good places to eat, gas, and stay at least as far as San Felipe.

down2 ,,

I said I was going to Mexico ,, not Tiajuana ,,

guys with that mentality end up in mexican jails ,, being punked by 300 pound lifers ,, nothing is worth having the Federalies after your ass ,, and if you are stupid enough to go with $10 hookers you deserve the STD you bring home to your girlfriend or wife ,,

I am looking for real travel experience ,,

thanks SkooterG ,, for your input

No can do in '06, but if there is any chance of organizing something like this for '07, definately count me in. I'll plan on saving up my vacation time for something like this. I know summers are killer hot, but that would be my preference.

lot of misconceptions and misinformation here.

Act stupid and you WILL end up in jail.

Don't drive at night if you can avoid it.

Satellite phones can be rented....."most "cell phones don't work

You won't see SanFelipe if you go thru Tecate.

Some cities should be missed at all costs (Cuidad Constitution comes to mind)

Others shouldn't ...Bahia de los Angeles, Mulege, Loreto

Roads are generally pretty good ..but watch out for the occasional pothole....and yes the 18 wheelers will take their half of the road and then some so don't plan on knee draggin' the curves.

And NEVER pass up the opportunity to get gas (which is presently about the same price as us in Aridzona.....about $2.35/gallon)...unless you buy it out of the bed of that pickup!!! hahaha ...been there...then just pay the asking price and be thankful the "entrepenuer" is there!! Remember the next Pemex station could be empty.

Baja is generally safer from crime than the Mexican mainland and MUCH safer than the US.

I just got back from the Baja 1000 and have been going to Baja for 30 years.

Act respectful, be careful and you'll have a great time with no problems.

If something does break you'll be surprised at the locals ingenuity and helpfulness.
