I have already swapped my accessory rear rack for the top box and the Smuggler twice since I had the bike. 15 minute job.

Thank you.I know there are just 5 bolts (plus miscellaneous spacers and washers) holding the SR357 to the bike and it appears that you don't have to take the plastic case holder off the rack to access these bolts. I was mostly concerned that there might be difficulties getting everything lined up properly. Life would be easier if the SR357 was compatible with the Smuggler.

My Smuggler is at the paint shop now. I asked him to grind the back corners off slightly where they touch the stock grab rails.

I hope they do a good job matching that matte blue! I assume that they didn't have to grind the Smuggler enough to weaken it.

I have a color-matched Givi V-46 top box on my '07 that started out perfect but faded much faster than the black cherry paint on the rest of the bike - doesn't matter, I can't see it when riding anyway!

I have had one on both my 2013 and now a different smuggler on the 2016 and both rubbed by the grab bar. Now try to add the new Yamaha luggage rack. Ya really have to do some grinding on the underside of the Smuggler and also the Yamaha reinforcement strips as well. Took me a couple of hours to get it right....... but I LOVE the combo, along with my Russell dished out driver seat.

.

Where exactly were they making contact? I just got one and don't want any damage.

Mine touched on the lower front of the right grab bar.

My Smuggler was bought used and both sides of it showed signs of serious contact from the previous install.

^^^^ this worked well for me....still love the slightly imperfect smuggler...kinda like my woman who still works very well l!!

I ordered a Corbin Front seat to work with my Russell rear seat and it fit right out of the box and it is super comfortable. I guess I got lucky.

I scored a galaxy blue Smuggler off eBay. Have a Givi top trunk and a SR346 mount. Hope it fits.

I managed to find a reasonably priced smuggler for my new 18.I was just fitting it and see that it is rubbing on the grab rails. I have to paint it to match the bike and will have my painter grind away a small amount so it does not touch but very disappointing that one has to do this with such a pricey item. Shame on Corbin, kind of disappointing.

The smuggler I ordered for my '17 FJR fit perfectly and no issues when my OEM top box is attached. BUT the problem I had was water seeping into the smuggler when it rained hard or when washing the bike. It almost ruined my canon 24-70mm L lens but I was able to repair it for $500 from Canon.

The smuggler was returned to Corbin 5 times for replacement or repair under warrantee. But the last time I sent it back, Corbin decided to refund me for smuggler instead. Yes, they gave up trying to adjust the rubber seal.

Does anybody else have the water leakage issue?

Mine is, at best, water resistant. I have not played with the hinge, latch or rubber seal to try to improve it yet. (it is new to me). Nothing that can be damaged by water goes into it on a rainy day until I can resolve this.

I got mine off the Forum. The lid was excessively loose, and after some looking, I realized it was missing the rubber seal. I got some moulding material from somewhere and installed it. Nothing inside has ever been wet.

'Zilla - got a photo of the rubber seal you used? I might try to improve mine if I can. Haven't even tried to play with the hinge or latch mechanism yet. Looks like some adjustments may be possible. For the cost of the damn things, you should be able to use them as a submarine (for a hamster).

The picture above is the piece I replaced. I would look for the package, but its after midnight, and I'd have to try to think what I did with the extra. Pretty sure I got it from AutoZone.

The below picture is the compartment. That piece of rubber was still attached. I'm sure if either is missing or worn, the seal may be poor:

Good luck.

The only seal on any FJR Smuggler I have seen is on the lip of the compartment as shown in your second photo. Looks like some sort of extra seal attached to the lid (like you did) may be the answer. I may try messing with the hinges a bit first - looks like some adjustment may be possible there.

Thanks
