Odly enough, both my RSs came with the chargers and the plugs. how much do you trust yor dealer? You know, the one that gave you the worng bags and manual?

 
panthercity ! THANKS! I'm headin for a John Deere store tomorrow. The only beemer I had until this one was a new 96'1100RT. It shifted like a John Deere. No kidding. How much do I trust my new BMW dealer? Not at ALL.NEVER TRUST A BIG MISTAKE ON WHEELS DEALER! I tried FOUR dealers with my 1st beemer.None of'em could install a light bulb. Current dealer,so far,is right in their league. Am studying up to do my own service.May be the only way this beemer gets any,judging from my experience. But this GS(on-off roader) is perfect for my needs. And it seems to work, unlike my 1st beemer. GAWD, I wish Yamaha would make this bike.

 
R11xx boxers are very easy to work on. Routine maintenance is a two cup job with the exception of bleeding the EVO system. Even that is doable with a bit of practice and a dollop of confidence.

Nice thing is, most everything that needs fettling is right out there where you can get to it easily.

If it works for you, the prime criteria IMNSHO, ENJOY!

 
charisma ol'boy. you may be right. Suzuki makes the V-STROM tho. In my neck of the woods (northwest),BMW sells a LOT of GS's(big on-off roaders). A fertile market for jap bike makers if they wanna dip their toes in it.Hope they do.

 
I owned a BMW(k75s) and while I loved the bike , the arrogant and over priced service is an experience I chose not to replicate in my future purchases.

 
yeah nidan, i agree. BMW service suks. My pal with a new GS Adventure tried to get a 600 mi service.THREE weeks he has to wait.The Boise BMW dealer does service on Boise police BMW's too. just one dealer.SUKS. BUT, I've done a few hundrad miles of dirt on my new GS on-off roader.A couple 1000 miles of paved.This IS a great bike.You can go darn near anywhere.Lots of power too. Too damn badd Yamaha didn't make it. Do I miss my 06' FJR I sold to get the GS? Nope. It pains me to say that.But GAWD, does BMW service suk.Expensive too.But the krauts did manage to make one great bike.

I spent a total of $1100 for a one night stay at THE BROADMOOR last week. In otherwords, $1100 is a drop in the bucket. While it used be a wad of dough a couple of years back, these days I'd imagine it'd cost more than $1100 to take my family (4) to see a Cowboys game. ..
If you have a problem with that, I hear bicycling is a realively cheap form of transportation.,..

Oh, look... more Texas wisdom. Look, I'm the first to tell people cycling for the sake of cycling ain't exactly a cheap entry 'sport' - going thru' that right now with a guy at work. He wants a bike so badly, did the MSF, has soem of the gear, but he's shopping bikes at $500. *rolls eyes*

But in the real world... where I live... I use my bike as my primary vehicle, so things like routine $1100 service visits at one dealer located in Bumphuk, Nowhere is simply *not* practical for me. But then, ya know, I work for a living and have a reasonable budget.

I suppose some independently wealthy folk can laugh at me from the Beamer waiting room or something :blink:

 
Go ahead, ignore the fact that the $1100 figure is bogus and that most of the BMW owners I've known have enjoyed doing their own work. By and large, the bikes are incredibly easy to work on. Butt, don't let that deter your tirades...

 
My 1st service(600 miles) on my beemer GS was $229. The 6000 mi service will be about $150. Then a 12000 mi service & every 12000 after that. I have more problem with the frequency of service than it's cost. They tell me doing my own service will void the three year warranty .My experience with beemer service for my 2 new beemers in 30 years of riding ain't good. I'd still have the FJR ,but the beemer on-off roader is just perfect for my needs. So far,it's a DAMN good bike. The thing constantly surprises me with it's competence.My fingers are crossed.

 
I've owned three BMW bikes ( plus several of their cars ) over the years. I was able to tolerate their particular little niggling idiosyncrasies but, what eventually became intolerable, their crappy corporate and dealer attitudes did me in. Also, there are not many of their dealers around and getting too far from one is a little risky if you don't know how to work on the bike yourself. I'm done with that brand.

Provide them with a copy of the Moss-Magnuson Warranty Act then offer them three alternatives:

1. They refund all payments received for required maintenance and They provide further required maintenance at no charge

2. They refund all payments received for required maintenance and you do your own from here on out

3. You turn their lyin' ***** over to the Feds

 
Panthercity, thanks again. You mite just have something there. I'll look into that fed law. So far tho(3000 mi) this bmw GS is a hellofva bike. I didn't know it had been "Bike of the Year" in some publications when I bought it. But I'm beginning to see why. Still wish it was a Yammy tho.

 
If you don't want a garage full of bikes,the beemer 1200 GS shaft drive makes some sense. Only reason I sold the FJR to get the GS was I couldn't see any reason to take the FJR out when the GS goes 2 up really well & corners so darn well & doesn't limit me to paved & really good dirt roads like the FJR would. Much as I dislike Beemer dealers & service,this bike is almost perfect for my needs. It'll easily do about any 4 wheel drive road I know of & there are a lot of'm in my neck of the woods.The thing has the smoothest low end(1st,2nd gear) power of anything I ever rode.Great for negotiating the dirt nasties. But BMW service really does suk.

That's a LOT more reasonable.
