{"In that case, would you mind spotting me a couple of drops in the bucket? I might even pay you back someday...no interest though... :lol: }

Don't guess I'll be seeing you & the family at any professional game venues this year.........I too, am taken back with the rate of inflation we’re experiencing that's seems to be escalating at a rate faster than a speeding bullet, and nobody seems to care.....I can only imagine it won't be too much longer before you have to roll a wheelbarrow full of money to the store to buy a loaf of bread....I think next time you take your car to the honda dealer you find prices there are higher too......

In reality all $1100 will get you is.

1. 1 month's lease payment on a Porsche, BMW or Mercedes..

2. 1 tank of gas for a Pleasure Boat

3. 3 tanks of gas (maybe) for a Motor Home

4. A nice dinner for 4 at a 5 star restaurant (including cocktails & wine)

5. Tickets for 4 to a professional Hockey, Basketball, or Football game.

6. Pay your monthly Country Club bill

7. A new pair of exotic (cheap exotic) leather golf shoes

8. A set of Golf Clubs (graphite shafts) including a dozen balls

9. 1 night family stay in a Hotel in Hawaii (includes breakfast, lunch, dinner & snorkle rental)

10. a round trip airfare for 1 to Hawaii

11. 1 round of Golf for 4 at Pebble Beach

12. 4 tires for your car

13. the deductible on your car insurance (less of a deduc doesn’t make sense)

14. (4) 1 day passes to Disneyland

I can go on and on, but if you have a problem with $1100, you need to find another Job, or maybe instead of riding your motorcycle, you should be putting in some overtime down at the plant....cause things are just gonna get worse...

I spent a total of $1100 for a one night stay at THE BROADMOOR last week. In otherwords, $1100 is a drop in the bucket. While it used be a wad of dough a couple of years back, these days I'd imagine it'd cost more than $1100 to take my family (4) to see a Cowboys game. ..
If you have a problem with that, I hear bicycling is a realively cheap form of transportation.,..

We have this saying in Texas "If you can't bark with the big dogs, GET OFF THE PORCH!"
I almost thought you were serious!

I think Starcruiser got tired of barking on the porch with no responses, so he came to this forum to annoy people! :assassin: :D

If a dog barks on a porch and no one is there to listen, does it still make noise?

Earplugs in,

You have that right, I no longer go to pro sports games, I've really had enough of a bunch millionaires playing a kids' game complaining that they have trouble making ends meet because of a salary cap or salary offer $of $2.2M instead of the $3M they were asking for. Not to mention the doping and other drugs...

As for the rest of your list:

#1 - I said I drive a Honda, not a Porsche, BMW or Mercedes. In any event I wouldn't lease

#2 - My time sailing with the Navy in frigates, destroyers, supply ships, etc., taught me there's no such thing as a pleasure boat

#3 - Don't have a motor on my home. Oil company doesn't let my oil tank get below 1/2 so I never get a bill for more than $400 or so three times, sometimes four times a year

#4 - For $1100 for dinner for 4 with drinks, they had better chew my meat for me. Bergamo's in Orlando for a group of 5 with drinks and several bottles of wine was only $500. Even Bravo or the Fort in Denver only ran about $100 per. I think you're too generous a tipper

#5 - Go to a college game. Just as much fun at a fraction of the price

#6 - Never belonged to a Country Club but did have a membership at the Y once upon a time

#7, 8 & 11 - Don't golf. Does that mean I just saved $3300? $4400 if the golfing was at the country club?

#9 - Stayed in a 3 1/2 star Waikiki hotel a couple of years ago; 1 night in a 1 bedroom suite plus 1 standard room, feeding family equivalent to 8 (2 adults and 3 teenage boys) including tickets to the Polynesian Cultural Centre luau and evening show = $750, throw in souvenirs and 1/7th of minivan rental, $900

#10 - I'll give you that one since it depends on from where, when and what class and fare rule you fly - a non-refundable economy seat booked 21 days in advance with a minimum 1 day stay from Dallas Love Field to Honolulu can be had for around $600 on travelocity

#12 - Set of 4 P215/70R15 Michelin Destiny's installed & dynamic balancing = $600 + tax

#13 - $300 deductible on my car, costs $33 more than $1000 deductible

#14 - Never been there. Disneyland.com quotes a 5 day parkhopper pass at the gate at $219, single day theme park ticket for anyone over 10 years old at $59. But I'll sell you 4 of them for $1100

Say, it just struck me that I don't know what THE BROADMOOR is, wouldn't be one of those 'chicken ranches' would it? I could see easily spending $1100 at one of those places...   Not that I ever have, of course :D Maybe someone who went to WFO-5? :D

BTW, a 5 pack of freshly baked bread at my local Safeway sells for $5.99, or about $1.20 a loaf.

Take care of the knickels and dimes and the dollars will take care of themselves... :D

This is rich! (pun intended) I'd sure like to be the merchant at some of the places you shop!

1. I can lease a Boxster for $759/mo. They advertise it everyweek in the paper. Leases are a fools purchase anyway.

2. That is 300 gallons of fuel. Must be a BIG boat. I guess we aren't talking 24' ski boat? JFK's PT boat or something?

3. This sounds plausible. But my house doesn't have wheels, nor does it attract tornadoes

4. Only cost $1100 if you have absolutely no idea how to pick a good wine.

5. Oddly enough the average ticket price for a Denver Broncos ticket is $52. 52 x 4 = 208. Even if you throw in 7 $6.00 beers for each ticket holder, it doens't get close to 1100. NHL hockey ticket average here is around $70/seat. The math doesn't add up there either. Basketball is slightly less than that, here anyway.

6. I wouldn't be a member of any club that would have me.

7. Cheap exotic? What is that, platypus skin? Tiger Woods doesn't wear $1100 golf shoes.

8. Yeah the clubs are about that. Do they really help your game more than the $500 clubs? has anyone ever noticed that the pros use steel shafted irons? If graphite or boron were so great, why wouldn't the pros use them- speaking of irons of course.

9. Wow, I am so unlucky. I priced a hotel stay in Hawaii for much less than that per night. Guess that must be a real dive. Oddly enough it was a five star resort on Kauai, not the Bugs Bunny motel on Honolulu.

10. You mean first class right? One can get a coach round trip ticket for less than $500

11. Do you have to wear the Cheap Exotic golf shoes on that round of golf?

12. I suppose it is possible but tires for that Boxster are about 750 for Z-rated tires. Tires for the SUV in the garage were $500

13. Sure, many people have a $1k deductible. Does this mean that a $25k deductible is chump change too? I have a $500 deductable on my Acura, it is $23 more a year than $1000. The math works out in my favor there- statistically speaking

14. No ****? $1100 for a one day pass to Disneyland. That must be the one that comes with Cheap Exotic golf shoes, 4 tickets to see the Stars play the Leafs or that hooker from Reno.

Dwavey- The Broadmoor is a Hotel and golf course in lovely (ahem) Colorado Springs Colorado. Us locals can get a getaway package for $200/night.

I just sold my 06'FJR and bought a beemer 1200GS on-off roader. Where I live there is one paved highway. The thrill is gone soon enough riding it. There are lots & lots of mountain dirt roads(some are nasty),hence few to no people on them.I like that. These roads can extend to 4 other states. Views are incredible.Camping is secluded & nice. The beemer does a great job on them, even two up as we often are. It also is a darn passable paved road bike with good power, but lots of gear hunting at 60mph & below(a beemer trademark). But BMW truely suks. Hi priced, frequent maintence and the worst customer service I've ever seen. In 30 years I bought 2 new beemers. I got the wrong owner's manual with both---an aggravating circumstance with a new, unfamiliar & kinda weird bike.My 1st beemer was was beyond 'lemon'--junk. If Honda or Yamaha ever makes a competitive bike to this GS, I'm leaving the Big Mistake on Wheels real fast. But this is a most competent bike for my needs. The cheapest bikes to own I ever had were 2 ST1100 Hondas-bulletproof. All bikes should be like that.

The story I've heard (on pretty good authority) was that a few years ago, BMW told the dealers that they had to have the BMW branded motorcycles in a separate building & service area, not comingled with other brands of motorcycles. At the time, alot of dealers that carried BMW told them to shove it. It's probably the main reason BMW dealers have moved to other brands, because they didn't sell enough BMW product to justify the extra carrying expense demanded by BMW....
The BMW dealer in Abq has his Beemers sitting right next to the Kawasakis and IIRC Suzukis. His clothing area is quite eclectic. So either he called BMW's bluff or this story isn't totally accurate.

That's ridiculos - you bought a BMW because nobody else could do similar bikes but not happy with it. FYI both Yamaha and Honda have on-off roaders in the range. But GS better suits your needs and this is why you choose it?

This is a post on the sport-touring.net forum. The owner is not real happy with getting screwed for maintenance. The FJR is looking better to me.I've ridden a ST1300,VFR and both Vstroms, now riding a wing and VTX and plan to add another sporttourer. I've always liked the RT and GS but was afraid of high $$$$$$$ of BMW ownership. This confirms it:

Stupid "Routine" Maintenance Charges

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My 2005 BMW R1200RT is closing in on 30k. I expected a Service 1 at a cost of about $250. When I tried to make an appointment for this I was informed the needed maintenance would take two days and cost over $1100. The reason was the need for BMW "recommended" maintenance based strictly on that 30k mark. I balked and have postponed the decision to do these parts replacements until 36k.

I put those 30k miles on a new bike in just 15 months. I refuse to shell out that sort of money for services "recommended" by anyone. Would you pay $1100 for a tuneup on your car? My warranty will be gone by 36k so My decision process for maintenance after that will be based on an "as needed" basis. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm tired of paying through the nose for maintenance that I deem unnecessary and overpriced.

Signed "Flamed
:read: Let's face it, BMW is a well engineered product, fit and finish are top notch, it has a great reputation and has put out some pretty dependable bikes. Before purchasing my '05 FJR and '06 FJR, I seriously looked into purchasing a K1200.

After reading as many head to head comparisons as I could, line itemed initial cost, insurance costs, maintenance schedule and costs, it was clear to me that I could purchase a superior bike (have to remember FJR had won motorcycle of year, tourer of year, sports tourer of year etc., etc., in 2003 and 2004) for lease money and have less maintenance cost as I went through the life of the bike. I could take the money I saved and buy other toys or farkle the FJR to my hearts content.

Even though I had time on an BMW 650, RT1100 and RT1150, I went for the FJR. To this day I am glad that I did.

Ditto Leos South, a Kaw dealer near me that also happens to sell some Achtungmobiles alongside. All in the same room, which actually helps to elevate the Krautwagons some, and gets traffic in the door .......... ;) :D

The story about BMW motorcycle trying to force dealers to have separate storefronts & maintenance facilities came directly from the owner of Otto's BMW, near West Chester, PA. The car dealership makes him piles & piles of money, the MC shop is just a way for him to get bikes at cost. He came to this country with nothing, many years ago, and lucked into BMW when they were just getting started.

He lets his daughter run the BMW MC dealership, keeps her out of his hair...

BTW, the Fort Wayne Indiana dealership has the front half of their floor space devoted to BMW bikes, and they have a separate service counter for the BMW bikes. You have to walk through a door in the far right corner of the BMW room to get to the Kaws & Suzis. I guess that (& maybe a threat to drop them) was enough to make BMW a little more rational...

Maybe on your personal economy of scale, but IMHO, you're just another rich arrogant *******. $1100 gets me a hell of a lot further on more important stuff.

Had my new 1200GS in for 1st service.$220. BUT, they gave me the wrong owner's manual & wrong saddlebags when I bought it. Screws fell outta the muffler clamp, letting the clamp rub hell outta the muffler. They are gonna replace the muffler. To charge the battery there's a BMW connector that ONLY takes the BMW plug, sold SEPARATELY from the BMW charger. GAWD I wish Yamaha or Honda would build a bike to compete with the GS.It is great on dirt & darn good on pavement. It still has BMW gearing that means you're consttantly 'hunting' the right gear at 60mph & below. Darn good bike tho,so far. Far more frquent valve adjustments than the FJR too. $$$. Wish I didn't love dirt so damn much.
