What a great day!
About 14 of us showed up at Nessy Burger bright and early. Kind of temporary looking but great food.
BeemerDon, FJRob (GWing) and Dave Foley (BMW) pulled in from Phoenix the night before.
Locals included Fairlaner, Jorstin, DJBill, Pegscraper, Coldcut, Lawrence, SnowAviation, FJStar, Cometman on the whatchimacallit and me.
Johny80's showed up to say hi (Him and Beemerdon did slip away for a bit. Someone saw them later, coming out of the gas station mens room).
DJBill getting a head start on lunch.... at 7:30 am
The lineup
Nessys is a great meetup location since it's a gateway to all things blacktopped (OM: one word or two?) and twisty. 30 minutes from KSU we are the top of Palomar.
Absolutley clear and beautifull day. San Diego County is very green after last weeks deluge. From the top looking to the coast.
In a nutshell, our day went from this
to this
and included a few of these
and these
and these
and this glider port at Warner Springs. I'd like to get up in one of those some time.
The lookout on Pines to Palms highway looking down onto Palm Desert. Lots of snow covered peaks. That's Big Bear, 35 miles distant, the 'go to' snowboarding mountain
for LA and San Diego.
Lunch at Fishermans in La Quinta. Someone else can post the table for 15 on the patio. It was F U L L of good food.
After lunch (Burp!) we headed south to the Salton Sea.
Did not stop for pics, and we should have cause it's 227 feet below sea level, (if that's the only good reason for stopping and it probably is).
I's eerily beautifull in a strange sort of way:
Eerily:
a. Inspiring inexplicable fear, dread, or uneasiness; strange and frightening.b. Suggestive of the supernatural; mysterious.
This is not that eerily, weird shot I thought it was. This is actually a 'waterfront winery' kind of look. I could live here, maybe.
Heading into the desert, UP and back towards San Diego. The last pic will be from near the top those mountains, looking back to here. Stay tuned...
Road shot coming into Boreggo Springs
Last Pic looking eastward to Salton Sea.
Boy Howdy..... I think I might just re-run those 355 miles again this weekend..... Don? Richard? Tony?... anyone?
