We've had these lighted message signs along the freeways for the last few years--They're used for "Amber Alerts" and for warnings about accidents or bad road conditions ahead, for the most part. Today I saw a new message--in fact I saw it twice in my travels. I can't swear they're working as intended yet, but nobody cut me off today either, so that's good. . .

Saw it on 101S near Great America Pkwy, and also 880N after Milpitas.

Of course, I almost got hit by a CBR that got on 880 at Calaveras Blvd...I guess he was exempt.

Here in Ontario (Canada) we have had them for a few years. They cover a mulitude of topics but occasionally they mention motorcycles too. . Can't say it's made a difference but whatever it takes to get it into their thick heads

I went down to San Diego this morning to play golf with Roy and saw this sign about 6 times...... ye ha.

Was that pic taken with a one handed point and shoot while the other hand is on the trottle move???? :D

I think it's great the Cal Trans folks are at least *trying* to keep us in the cagers train of thought, I say attaboy Cal Trans! :yahoo:

yep, middle lane driver was pointing up at the sign for her passenger to see and drifted into my space as I was traveling in the right lane :angry2:

You can thank ABATE of California for the messages on the Amber Alert signs. We have been working for over two years to convince the State to do this as a Public Service message. After many meetings, lots of letters of support and refusing to take NO for an answer it is happening.

ABATE Safety Director John Del Santo just would not give up.

The messages are supposed to run through May (Motorcycle Awareness Month) and will change during this time. We also believe this effort is being coordinated with Oregon, but have no report on this yet.

California sure is tough to get anything done!
