They treat this stuff seriously down here. We got upgraded from a Watch to a Warning!!!!

---------------------------

...FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM EST /2 AM CST/ TO 9 AM EST /8 AM CST/ THURSDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TALLAHASSEE HAS ISSUED A FREEZE WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM EST /2 AM CST/ TO 9 AM EST /8 AM CST/ THURSDAY. THIS UPGRADES THE FREEZE WATCH THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY IN EFFECT.

* TEMPERATURE...28 TO 32 AWAY FROM URBANIZED AREAS.

* DURATION...3 TO 5 HOURS. LONGEST IN NORMALLY COLDER INLAND LOCATIONS.

* IMPACTS...POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO SENSITIVE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS AND OTHER SENSITIVE VEGETATION.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FREEZE WARNING MEANS SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE IMMINENT OR HIGHLY LIKELY. THESE CONDITIONS WILL KILL CROPS AND OTHER SENSITIVE VEGETATION.

---------------------------

I especially like how they explain what it means when they warn you it might freeze. I guess the trailer park folks have to know when to leave the water running.

OTOH, although not many crops are still out around here, further south the citrus industry takes cold weather VERY seriously. As you drive south on the Florida Turnpike between Ocala and Orlando, what was once huge citrus groves into the late 70s and early 80s is now either retirement parks or paper company land growing pine for pulpwood, after freezes killed the citrus trees.

So about how often does the weather service panic in Michigan or Montana when the temp threaten to dip into the low 30s???

Uh Walter, you do know don't you that Mary Ellen, yamafitter, Bungie and the rest of those sensitive Canuckistanis are going to jump on here and kick your ass for scoffing at 28-32F temps.

Bust, "Pops" and Geezer really don't care! Barry is drunk; and Greg and Niehart are senile!

Damn!! It's only going to get a few degrees cooler here tonight!

Normally those temps would be warm for this time of year (normally in the teens by now) but with climate change rearing it's head the dandelions just stopped popin' up two weeks ago. So they actually feel cold to me right now.

Gonna be some cold folks down that way tonight as most places I've been in the south don't have adequate heating systems. Heat pumps are useless below 45 50 degrees. Good night to curl up with a manatee. ;)

Don't forget a tuggy fer da guys

I'm pretty sure I've seen freeze advisories/warnings in Michigan, but I think it was during a time of year that below-freezing temps are not normal.

DURATION...3 TO 5 HOURS. LONGEST IN NORMALLY COLDER INLAND LOCATIONS.
That part does make me laugh :)

In a few weeks, I'll be wishing I only had to deal with 3-5 hours of freezing temps overnight.

Then I guess our puny low of 44 here in Central Florida won't win any friends either! High in the 70's tomorrow. Of course, there are many Canuckistanis around here, and they still show up on the beaches; recognizable by their lilly white skin and nut-buster swim shorts...

I got to clear about 3" of heavy snow off my car to go to lunch today. But, at least the mountains and nice people are still here :p

Brother Jim, I sure wish that you hadn't posted up this detailed description! For some totally unknown and obscure reason, I had an eerie and unsettling vision of yamafitter - Bill F. in red Speedos on the beach at Fort Lauderdale. Threw up just a little bit, over that whole scene! However, Maria Elena is a teeny red bikini would be a completely different story! Hubba, hubba, hubba, hubba!

Hey, fair's fair, but "sensitive" may be misapplication of an adjective, I dunno.

I've got a gas furnace, lit the pilot light about 3 weeks ago when the temp dipped into the mid-40s one night. It hasn't run since until yesterday. Reckon I'll have to bundle up for the ride to work tomorrow morning.

BTW, you can't buy long underwear here except for about 3 days in January. The stores put it out, it sells out, and that's it for the year.

Yeah, it's the same deal with the devil we make here in Northern New England. Only problem is all the high strung Southern New Englanders (and worse, New York, New Yorkers) all invade the place several strategic times each year: summer, foliage & ski seasons you might as well talk with a Boston accent

Hope it does not get as cold this winter as it did last winter. I had a canal full of dead mullet, they closed the snook season due to the fish kill :angry2: . Also not good for the manatees.

At 25oF I might consider changing over to a long sleeve t-shirt and stop wearing flip-flops.

As far as BeemerDon's comment about me and beaches goes all I can say is this, I don't go to beaches anymore since I got tired of the greenpeace types running out and trying to push me back into the water. :angry2:

I have added my official certificate from the Arctic Ocean Polar Bear Club when I was swimming off the north slope in Alaska.

I'm sitting here if front of a nice warm fire and, as Beemerdons said, I just don't care. :fire: I think I'll go refill my scotch.

Sweet! If the temps drop another 35 degrees that means the girl guides will be out selling cookies door to door!
