I wonder who might remember when they sold oil in glass bottles with a metal pour spout type lid? Those are my earliest memories of oil purchased for home oil changes. I've still got one of the bottles out in the shed.
When I was a boy, we used to squeeze it right out of the dinosaur. . .
You might use that stuff as rear end lube, but its not good for your engine.

Also, I saw some Triumph branded synthetic 20W-40 on a dealer shelf the other day.

I can't find this online either.

Ya can't beat Amsoil ..............9 outa 4 testers preferred the taste over the next best seller, KY Jelly, with added pheromone love jellys...................

Help organize and simplify your life.

I run Shell Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 in my FJR, BMW 1150 RT, Kubota BX-24 tractor, Chevy Suburban and 2500 H-D diesel, Honda ATV, 50HP and 15HP outboard motors, Honda CR-V, Craftsman lawn mower, and John Deere 265 tractor. I even keep a few ounces under the bed. Never had an oil related problem and never will.

Now go and pleasure your woman and forget about this issue for the remainder of your natural life.

The big deal with oils used in motorcycles is that they should be high in Zinc. It has something to do with preserving the cam faces. cars use hydraulic lifters and trucks have rollers, we just have metal faces and zinc works 'better'.
Unfortunately, many automotive oils do not have zinc (or their levels have been reduced to the point where they are not useful).

I change my oil religiously, but I use Castrol Grand Prix. It is a Motorcycle specific formulation.

It's true all motor oils have some Zinc. It's the absolute last defense against metal to metal contact. That is, when all else fails, like when an engine sits for months without running, or is run so severely that the oil begins to break down, the zinc is there to protect you.

This is why you should never run Slick 50® or Dura-Lube® etc. It upsets the zinc and makes the oil less effective

Oil Additives:

A friend in the oil industry, when asked about the effectiveness of oil additives (additives in general), would answer:

"Does it make you feel good when you pour it in? Then it's working..." :)
