Source of plastic windshiedl screws?

I'm looking for a source for plastic windshield screws,other than Mamayama. My FJR search/Google comes up as some photo thingy. I checked binofacts to no avail. Stopped at a local Fastenall,no luck. Thanks

I've never heard of any other than Yamaha in this very specially designed screw. Others are not designed to sheer off.

plastic screws designed to sheer are common in RC planes. the issue is one of exact size.

Are you referring to shearing screws as opposed to ladie's (and Bust's) stockings?

I bought a bag of 100 from McMaster Carr several years ago. P/N is 92492A322 (M5 X 25mm, Pan head philips)

I used what I needed and gave away the rest to forum members. No one said they diddn't fit so they probably work OK.

If anyone else decides to do this I could use a couple.

I picked up some Speed Metal ones at Cycle Gear. They work for my stock shield, but they're not quite long enough for the thicker Vstream.

92492A328 was mentioned in another thread also, M5 x 20 mm (I think OEM is 18 mm).

BTW, I used stainless screws on my Calsci and it caused cracking around the mount holes. My windshield mechanism has a lot of play so that might have been the reason, however, I would use a thin rubber washer under the screw head if going stainless. I don't worry too much about sheer.....

My (unfortunate) personal experience tells me it's well worth having shear-able screws, probably saved me the cost of windscreen and drive mechanism in what was a relatively minor off.

And I'd hate to try to break the windscreen by levering its top edge using the front of my neck if I hit something head-on.

I would stick with the plastic screws. No reason to have pretty metal ones, since you can't see them anyway and for safety, I'd rather have the screws break off if I was ever to try to fly through the windscreen.

I use the ones from McMaster-Carr, with rubber and thin plastic washers. The plastic washers offer some slip to you can more easily tighten the screws.

Just a warning, the plastic is extremely soft and the philips heads strip quite easily. I tighten by hand until they are just snug.

Because of this, and the low-price of the bulk ones from McMaster-Carr,, I replace the screws each time I remove windshield.

I agree, eventhough they are $0.085 each (that's 8.5 cents). The off-white ones are only 8 cents each.

That's about 60 cents every time you remove your windshield - maybe worth it.

All I know is they DO shear nicely before breaking other components, and Cheapcycleparts.com has em for about $1.07 each. I would use the OEM screws after my wife knocking my bike over and breaking off the windshield. The only thing I replaced on the windshield was the plastic screws.
