Whew!! Finally made it home. Getting out of the mountains was a royal PITA, way too many folks. Luckily no rain leaving like there was getting there!

I appreciate the opportunity to finally put some faces with names. Food was good too- can't go wrong with ribs!! Ended up a very long day and another 530 tacked onto the odometer.

Made it to work...a little late... DANG it was difficult getting out of bed at 8:30! So here I am, a bit bleary eyed, but here. Good thing management isn't in on weekends.

Already planning with Carla to spend some quality time on Warwoman Rd. Hopefully I'll have had a bit more sleep before tackling it the next time! Discretion was definitely the better part of valor in choosing to take the quickest and straightest way home after the RTE. Only got about 1.5 hours sleep after working from 10:00 PM Friday night to 8:00 AM Saturday morning before meeting 1911 in my driveway. At least I was already up and had the bike pulled out of the garage when he got there. Had even taken the time to check the air in the tires and the oil level.

Oh...that reminds me..... Anyone have a center stand that will work on a 2003 FJR? Mine collapsed on me a while back. Makes it a bit difficult to check the oil and such.

Ray - any Gen II stand will work. Don't know about Gen III. Gen I stands from 04 on will work. Don't get an 03 stand since they had a fabrication issue which caused them to collapse - mine collapsed a couple years ago.

Yeah...was kind of funny...I used the center stand most of the time because of all the talk there used to be here about the 03's falling off the side stand. Then the blasted center stand breaks off on me! And I've NEVER had a problem with the side stand! LOL

( I DO make REALLY sure it is in the "fully down and locked" position though.)

Hey Russ/rbentnail, thanks for making the big haul over here. I'm sure it wasn't fun fighting with trucks and cars on I85 on the way over, then following the cagers on US 64 heading home.

Maybe the next gathering can be someplace north of Asheville somewhere, so you don't have to head out so far next time.

Do Saturdays or Sunday work better for people?

Home and still a big grin from a great time. Thanks to all of you especially Uncle Hud. And sorry no video, apparently while we were enjoying bbq the camera was rolling so after we got gas before we got on warwoman for some fun it ran out of memory... Guess we gotta go back guys and do a retake.
Walter, I was gonna ask that you scrub my license plate off the video, but I see there's no need. :D

I was surprised about I85. Yeah it can sometimes be a pain but this time even going through Charlotte was a breeze: moderate traffic, no accidents or construction at all. Leaving, I understand the sightseers and leisurely driving but it was just the sheer number of folks that were out. But it's all good riding when I settle into the fact that it's a "chill the F out and enjoy" ride instead of a "get the H home NOW" ride. Plus remember I had additional stops to make on the way home:

Gorges State Park

Dupont State Forest

And Stumbled across Holmes Educational State Forest

My work schedule is a rotating one so it's a toss-up as to whether I can be anywhere on any given day. Plan it and I'll be there if I can. Off the top of my head I recommend https://www.theredonioncafe.com/ in Boone, NC. They'll take reservations

. And https://www.woodlandsbbq.com/ in Blowing Rock, NC. And https://bayousmokehouse.com/#about-us in Banner Elk, NC. They had the brisket ready for lunch when last I was there

ETA: Dammit!! Frikkin post won't take my link and deletes all the text after that, even after several attempts to edit. WTF?

My family hiked in DuPont over Christmastime and it was awesome. Beautiful waterfalls with very little hiking effort, and lots more if you wanted to make the effort.
Thanks for the restaurant recommendations...always good to know.

I have a lot of riding planned at the end of September, beginning with EOM and Hooterville in Missouri beginning of October.

So do we want to meet early in September or mid-October?

(Or someone else take up the reins and meet whenever the heck you wanna meet.)

Yea, north of A'ville like Maggy Valley. I was shocked to learn that a few of our crowd haven't been to Wheels Through Time.

How about Oct 24, Bayou Smoke House, Banner Elk NC? I'm in. Move a little farther north, maybe a couple Virgiinie folks can come.

very disappointed....
Sorry, hppants, we were too busy gabbing and eating to take photos of the food. RayW's wife sent a jar of BBQ sauce that made the rounds and got inspected by the kitchen staff.

Add me to the list of "not been to Wheels Through Time", 1911.

Oh yea, food pictures! How did we miss that? It was good though. Also add me to the "Not been to Wheels Through Time". I have ride through Maggie Valley though on my way to somewhere.

Sounds like maybe a Maggie Valley run next at a restaurant with a Wheels Thru Time stop. Duane/1911 says it's a must see. I'll post that one...and coordinate with Duane to make sure he can be our guide at WTT.

Then after that, maybe Russ wants to post up sumpin up north with the places he's been recommending.

Awesome Food!!!!!!!

A theme is developing I see, I too have never been to Wheels thru Time! Do they have a restaurant as well? Maybe since so many haven't been that could be the next place?
