Just went on a ride with my brother and his HD buddies. They were headed from So. Cal. east across the desert. They were staying out of town and my plan was to ride out with them, turn around and come home, make it a day ride.

Five HD’s and my 06A. Cool guys that ride and appreciate any bike, they liked the Feejer. I like the HD’s and admit they look cool and sound good for awhile. I would like one in my garage but I can’t convince the wife a man needs three motorcycles. I’ve had one before and do like them.

Got a ways out and they were filling up. We had about 55 miles to my turn around point and I had one bar above half. I was cool and said I don’t need gas (mistake). We headed east and a couple of the guys took off, cruising at 105+ MPH. I passed the other three bikes and gave chase; we ran the 55 miles never dropping under 100.

Had a new 6 speed and a 5 speed HD running hot. The 6 speed was pulling away at 110 so I had to pass the 5 speed. My +2 Cee Baily all the way up and sitting up like in a parade I passed both bikes at 135, as fast as it would go like this on the slight uphill.

Cooled to 105 and started downhill and the 6 speed passed me at 120. Damn, I dropped my windshield and tucked in. Passed him and looked at the speedo, 150. Time for common sense and slowed down. New record for me and the Feej.

The bike was very solid at these speeds including the 100 MPH sweepers. I’m on my third set of Avon Storms and this set is the best set yet. Very smooth and virtually no deceleration wobble. These are the first set of tires (three brands) in 50,000+ miles on this bike that don’t have the 50 and under decal wobble. It’s never been an issue unless you’re slowing down with hands off the bars.

Problem with running so fast for so long is slowing down to 100 seems like being on the freeway at 50, way too slow.

We stopped at the 55 mile mark and told each other how much fun that was. Was it smart, no. Was it fun, yes.

Now my pride caught up with me. The Feej burns a lot of gas at that speed. I was one bar and a long way from gas. I had to nurse the bike 55 miles at 65 MPH (speed limit for heavens sake). Felt like I was standing still. I made it but it was flashing low.

Just some fun with two wheels. Isn’t it great?

Moral; when in doubt, get gas. When not in doubt, get gas.

Have fun and ride safe,

Holy Stinkin Cow - 150?!?! That would have been fun to explain in court.

I just spent 5 yrs on a HD super glide sport, what model HD was crankin out 120MPH?

I am still breaking in my new 2007 FJRA, and do heartily believe 150 is possible given what I have seen so far just running up through the gears.

The bike will go beyond the 50 mile reserve at 65, I have gone 57 mikes on reserve and put 6.4 gal in the tank. Don't wuss out cus its flashing you have another 45 min to an hour of riding left. :)

Have fun and ride safe,
You did a track day with some HD's ?,.... 150 mph on public roads kind of a bit contradictory to the common sense part in you'r topic line.

-Don

I thought the common sense part was about getting gas at the right time.

Two things I never pass up, getting fuel, and using the mens room.

I did a 1500+mi trip over a long weekend the weekend of 4-26 on the FJR. A mix of riding with most of the miles in the coal areas of WV. Some backroad areas with much higher speeds. I got 50.4mph overall on the trip.

Can't believe you were letting those HD's give you a hard time like that. Must of been V-rod's cause no other harley would crank it up to that speed. Also, they turn like tanks. And yes, I have ridden one through the "twisties" of the smokey's so I know.

The feej will pull to about 160-5 then it doesn't do so well.

OBTW, warning sticker inside the bags say don't exceed 85 with bags installed. Thought ya might want to know.

I did a 2700 mile tromp to Reno for WFO. I did 71 MPH overall on the trip. (38 hours wall clock time). I have no idea how I did on fuel economy, though.

Have fun and ride safe,
So how was the draft between your toes with those flip-flops on? Bet yer t-shirt was flappin like crazy! B) [j/k]

FWIW, my GPS indicates 75 mph when my speedo is indicating 80.

Therefore, your 150 speedo indication would correct to just over 140 mph actual.

Pretty stinkin' good for rice burnin' bagger!

Thanks for sharing, but remember to ride your own ride!

Sounds like fun. Glad to hear you had a good time.

Me, I have never had my FJR over 85mph. Speeding is dangerous, and more importantly, illegal.
