SpeedTV has GOT to be the most weak-***, no-load, limp-****, sorry-*** channel for motorcycle racing coverage IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND!!!!!!!!!
Then I suggest you tune in to one of the other channels that has motorcycle roadracing coverage...

What other readily available channel covers WSB, AMA Pro Roadracing or MotoGP?

You're not the only one getting frustrated. I only got to see race 1, instead of race 1 & 2 and WSS. Why? Cause of the Tour de France. Like watching a bunch of guys touring the country side on bicycles is that interesting.

:fans:

OUTSTANDING RANT!!! And dead on point. And colorful.

As for motorsports, I enjoy motorcycle racing and Formula 1, in that order. Can't find anything interesting in NASCRAP. As for motorcycle racing, it's MotoGP, Superbike and Superstock at the top of the list, so the offense you cited is particularly offensive. **** 'em!

Definately the best part of a NASCAR race (read the only part to watch) is the last 1/2 lap. If it wasn't for the wrecks it wouldn't be worth watchin at all.

The Tour is one hell of a bicycle race and there are a lot of us who are enjoying every minute of it. It's not something that you grasp immediately, but after you watch it awhile, you realize how complex and subtle it is. And the coverage by Paul Sherwen and Phil Liggitt is some of the best sports commentary out there.

That's the issue with discussions like this - one person's passion is another's poison. It all depends on your POV. Everybody thinks their flavor of racing, no matter how esoteric and obscure, is hugely entertaining and the rest are stupid.

All in all, Speed covers quite a bit of ground and I'd estimate I enjoy about 15 hours a week of motorcycle racing coverage during the high season. That's not bad in my book.

Keep in mind that in the recent MotoGP at Laguna, the organizers were crowing that 57K people attended the race. Compare that to the Brickyard 400 which has 400K+ attendance. And Laguna was a one-time deal whereas the Brickyard is one of a huge series of races. There really is no comparison between the popularity of Nascar and any motorcycle racing series. We're a minority.

You have a point, but if you consider that the TT in Assen (MotoGP) here is the largest single day sportsevent in the country with something like 200k spectators and the MotoGP coverage here in Holland on local TV is about, well non existant, then I'd say there is something wrong with our coverage. It's stoopid that I have to watch it either on Eurosport or the BBC.

Yea that sucks. Here in the US two wheel sports don't have a large fan base. Supercross is catching on but after going to every Los Angeles and Anahiem race for 15 years I stopped going. It turned into a beer party and I had to explain to everyone seated around me who the racers were and how the heat races worked.

After getting to the race 2 hours before the race and not being able to get into the parking lot and having to park off site because of all the beer partys in the parking lot I decided I'll just watch it on tv the next day.

BINGO!
The lack of alternative channels and subjective measurements on the minority status of motorcycle racing are not proof of insufficient demand for a better solution. Who might have predicted that "biker build off" or "American Chopper" would become hits? No one in this country has yet offered the public a product consisting of motorcycle racing (several varieties) with intelligent and engaging commentary that is exciting, factual, and informative to the viewer. Up to this point, the "motorcycle racing on TV" product in this country has been pretty lame. ****** products fail. NASCAR has done nothing if not prove that even a boring race can be made entertaining for the masses. Build it and they will come.

People mention money as the reason, NO WAY!

You telling me that some of these limp **** shows such as playing cards, reruns of 30 year old home improvement shows, and you can insert your own favorite show to hate here draw a bigger audience than superbike racing.

If sells of sportbikes is any indication that people like motorcycles and motorcycle racing you can't possibly tell me that they can't make money off of it.

Motorcycles are not politically correct and I am sure they have a lot of pressure from all kinds of groups to not show them at primetime.

I have no proof of that just my guess.

Around here in maryland I have been to many dirt bike races but they are not well advertised but when you go they are a packed house. Places around here are hard to find to go dirt bike riding but when you do find one they are crowded. There is a market but again not popular with the political arena (which ever side you want to blame)

When Speed took over Speedvision, we said we expected it to change to "all NASCAR all the time". People who wrote to the "editor" were assured that would never happen.

Yeah, sure.

Loved the understated way Warchild started this thread. Wish you would just tell it like you feel it, Dale. (or, as my son would say - Love your work, man).

Here in the land of Oz we get every MotoGP live (comes on around 6 or 7pm on a Sunday night for us), and also every WSB round. It becomes challenging on nights there is also a Formula 1 GP because I have to use Picture-in-picture to watch both (while on a FJR site on the laptop). Getting to work on Monday morning can be challenging, seeing as these all finish around 2:00am.

I think our coverage is poor, but having just read this thread I am not, NOT, going to complain.

My cycling friends live for the "tour". The best part for me is to wait for one of those support cars or video pillons to wipe out some contender for the piss yellow jersey.

Warchild for President!!!!!!

Abolish Nascar!!

Establish Following channels:

MotoGP

World Superbike

AMA Superbike

WMRRA channel for us locals

Multiple other channels to cover roadracing, flattrack, mx, harescrambles etc.

What say Ye?

Bryce

PS

Throw in Federal funds for more roadracing courses in WA state!

And, if you've ever done a Century, you know this is an impressive feat to watch. These guys can ride all day at a pace faster than I can do over 50 miles.

I agree, it's all about business. Guys, we just don't have the numbers to compete with the 'Dixie' swilling masses who propegate Speed audiences. Economics 101 says every corporation's #1 priority is keeping its shareholders portfolios in the + numbers, and our little minority just isn't going to do that by itself. Sure, our passion for the sport keeps us in the saddle and in front of the TV screen during a race, but it's business that makes the bikes roll off the lines and keeps the racing on the TV and in the magazines. Sure, I'd like to see more 2-wheeled racing too, but..........

Kind of like the local utility, it's the only game in town. So, whaddya' gonna' do? :dntknw:

When I first started getting Speed Channel, maybe 8 years ago, I really liked it. They would broadcast a lot of European rally racing, now that was good stuff. They always seemed to have an actual race of some sort on.

The channel has definately changed for the worse. Now, 9 times out of 10 when I tune in they are talking about NASCAR. That would be an exaggeration, make that 19 times out of 20. Not an actual NASCAR race, mind you, just Billy Bob talking to Cooter about a race that has been over for days, or will not start for days.

Every once in a while they have something on I will watch. For example, about 2 months ago, at 10:30 Sunday night, they had 1/2 hour of rally racing.

I understand that NASCAR is very popular now and Speed is trying to take advantage of that, but I can't see how even an avid Nascar fan can watch so much talk about nothing.

Bottom line: I rarely watch this channel anymore.
