spinal injections

Other than numb arms which they told would happen and I didn't wake up paralyzed things are OK. They started just above my collar bones on each side and guided the needle with a CT machine and injected lidacain on the way in. The needle went in the C5-C6 nerve channel almost to the spinal cord on each side. With my size and big neck he had more needle inside than out. He said the steroid surrounds the spinal cord and relieves inflammation.

I hope I'm one that gets many months of relief. It's suppose to be a few days for full effect

Kind of scary to think of what could happen then again the pain factor for so long and the chance to be reduce or even maybe possibly eliminate that pain.. I get it. Good choice Ray. Hanging in there with you, brother.

I doubt it will be permanent as the damage is extensive but if I can be comfortable for the riding season after they do the lower back next week I'll be happy. May consider a surgery option in the fall but the cutters I've talked to aren't real eager to try it.

My curiosity is peeked. Since you had the injections at C5-6, how high up did the numbness start? I had C5-6-7 fused and now am wondering what would have happened if they had fubar'd it.

My back is toast, and my neck vertebrae are compressed.

Steroid injections may help for a month or two.

Had nerves burnt out of my back last summer, that lasted a few months.

For years I've had numbness and weird nerve tingles from my scalp down thru my shoulders and arms. Some times I get tingles and a tugging sensation in my face. Haven't had that for a couple days but it's Way to early to tell what the end result will be. There is still damage to C3-4 and C4-5 that will be shot up if needed. the major nerve impingement is C5-6. As I understand it the higher up the damage is the better the chance of ugly results if the cutter slips or sneezes .

I'm hoping the lumbar shots next week offer some relief so I can ride in a little more comfort. I'm hoping for a BBG this year on the Spyder .

FWIW, not all old guys have bad backs. Some have heart problems foot problems, erection problems, or forget the name of their first born. However there are a few lucky ones flying the bird, because we are still are aware, that no one gets a free pass. JSNS.

I have a friend who had 2 L vert fused at the same time as I had my 3 c vert fused. Her results were much better than mine. At the time I attributed it to surgeons and assumed, because L carry more load, that the Ls would be trickier to pull off. That may not be the case. They also did some "caged chicken wire" thing with bone "rip rap" for her iirc (a bridge engineering term that I know doesn't apply here).

Keep in mind that I consider mine to be a success and residual affects are minimal and intermittent. In her case, taken at her word, there were no after affects at all/ever once recovery was complete.
