If your getting 10K out of your stock tires and still expect to keep up w/ your buddies, you need to be twisting the throttle harder. I suggest you put a set of Avon Storm ST's on your FJR.
And, some riding schools/track days.
Hardly. Riding school is not going to transform an FJR into a bike that can compete with a hyper bike. Besides, I have done a ton of road racing in my day, and more track days than you could count on both hands. And I'm hardly complaining getting 10k out of the stock tires. BTW I love how I'm not riding correctly when my tires last. Quite the opposite according to the track days I’ve attended. My point was more about how I miss having a real Sport bike, and the FJR is not that, sticky tires or not, track days or not. Most seemed to understand the intent of the post, some not.

The latest Cycle World just did a track ride on the new CBR1000RR.
Quotes:

"Honda's all-new CBR1000RR Gixxer fighter gets lighter, righter."

"The ease with which it turns in and makes side-to-side direction changes is uncanny for a liter-class machine."

"...strong and progressive two finger stopping power."

"The engine feels strong and has a midrange hit that lends an element of excitement that has gone somewhat missing with many of today's most powerful sportbikes."

"I recently sampled the latest KAW ZX10R at a press intro, and while it laid down an impressive, very linear spread of power, it lacks the fun factor experienced on this Honda."
Stop it. I'm getting excited. :dribble:

I have the Red and Black 06 CBR 1000. Bought it last summer as a new 06 got a great deal. I added Heli Bar riseres so the bars are up about 1 1/2" Also got a sargent seat for the long days. And some luggage.

Very, very cool. That would be a great solution for me. Put the bags on only for that long ride, then off they come. How much better does the riding position feel with the risers? How much did the aftermarket seat really help? How long are your longer rides? Thanks...

Believe it or not, I took my FJR out on the track. The handling was good, the grip was great. There was a little water on the track and the extra weight allowed me to push it more than the liter bikes. I was ripping around most riders until the late afternoon sessions. It was a lot of work, though, but a ton of fun.

I think risers make a huge difference I can actally sit up to give the back and arms a break. The sargent seat is night and day over that stock piece of plywood Honda gives you to sit on. Last fal rode from St Lous MO. to Nashvile ad up the Blue Ridge Pkwy and back to St. Louis. Seven DAYS avege about 450-500 miles a day

Ugh! I rode down to a Honda Dealership today...they had the new '08 sitting in the parking lot. All black, the thing looked sweet. It only weighs 20 more pounds than the 600...the saleman looks at me and asks, "Wanna give her a spin?" I thought about it and finally said, "Nope". I was scared I would trade my bike in and that would be it. However I am going to take it for a spin....soon....very soon. Ugh that thing is sweeeet.

Ya know I bought this gixxer 600 to do some track days on...everyone says to start on a 600. But now I really want that 1000 too!! hahaha. So maybe I could trade the gixxer in on the CBR and then buy a beater for the track? Hmmmm I may need some help on this one....i should start a new thread.

I too was in my local Honda shop the other day. They had three 1000's sitting there, red & black, yellow & black, and the one I like red & silver. Needless to say I have a 05 Midnight Warrior and a 05 Triumph Thruxton I'm trying to sell so I can get one.

The new CBR1000XX looks like Honda still has it in the WFO performance class. When Honda decides they want to do something right, they sure can, but in apparent favor of making more cruisers, it's been disappointing that their commitment to performance street bikes seems to be limited to the RRs after they abandoned the XX and let the ZX-14 and Busa completely take over what the Blackbird started.

I've had my XX out the last couple days, and say what you will about the FJR, but it ain't in the same power class as a liter sport bike, Busa, ZX-14 or even an XX. While my XX is NOT a true sport bike, it's a LOT closer than the FJR is. (Mine has ave Traxxion/Penske suspension, lighter aftermarket wheels, Pilot Powers, plus a pipe and PCIII.)

With Wilbers suspension, a pipe and PCIII on my FJR, it'll get out of its own way, but the XX literally blurs scenery and is much more solid in hard corners. If I had a liter sport bike, there is no doubt that every time out, I'd be working on earing a performance award. So, the thing I use to keep me from doing too much thinking about buying one when tempted is to try to imagine how much my insurance bill would jump even without any perf awards. As it is, the XX costs me more than the other two bikes combined to cover (without any farkles considered) and it's the oldest of my 3 bikes.

I sure do understand the need to have more than one bike in the garage, though.

And you have a KLR, one of my dream bikes. My Brother just bought an 08, and he loves it.

Not trying to change the subject, but I was wondering what kind of tank bag is on mehaffydr's CBR...?

That is the Engage. Got it from Twisted Throttle. HERE I like it because it has a latch ring that fits around the fuel filler and there are noo straps or magnets to scrath your tank.

I use this same bag on my FJR also.

Thanks for the reply...I'm looking for a tank bag for my FJR... I thought this one might fit nicely. Thanks again.
