My buddy and I just did a BB1500 last weekend. I just can't say enough good things about the FJR. Close to 1,800 miles ridden in 2 days, varying from riding The Tail of the Dragon Hwy 129 to small town traffic to Interstate, Heat and Rain, it just ate it all up. We had a blast.

Original Post of the ride we planned.

Those posts are on my blog, geared to a more general audience, but pics, route info is all there.

As far as the FJR. I really didn't expect riding this many miles to be so easy/comfortable and just plain fun. It was a great time. We did waste WAY too much time at the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway, stopping at a lot of overlooks and talking with other riders. Then when we thought we'd be able to put the hammer down and head home, we realized we had a couple more hours of slow going. So for the last 400 or so miles, we had to move along.

We had a lot of two lane and non-interstate road in the mix, some pretty slow, stopped during the SS1000 for a real meal, were never rushed.

Stock seat, stock windshield. I don't have a problem with either. Knees starting bothering me in the second day, so I moved the seat to the higher position. That took care of it.

Stock shield has always been fine with me, but late in the evening, on the SS1000 after being on the bike 14 hours or so, when I put the windshield high to protect from some rain, and some fatique from the normal lower position, I did feel some buffeting that was rattling my head. I've never felt this on my normal rides, but after so many miles, and probably being a little tired, I did notice it.

I had a new Michelin Road Pilot 2 on front, what an AWESOME tire. Bike handles SO good with this tire. Bike is absolutley stable at speed, no wobble or any issues at all. One quiet section of straight road on the first morning, GPS registered a high speed of 128. Bike was still pulling strong, and felt completely comfortable. That was fast enough, my buddies BMW was getting very small in my mirrors. That was just a run up to speed, then back down, we never ran fast, max of 5-10 mph above posted speed limit all the time. That was still plenty to do the SS1000 and BB1500.

Good for you and your Beemer bud, Dave.

I'm planning a BB1000 in the near future, and am now considering adding in the 1500 as well.

Course, I might save the 1500 for cooler temps in the fall which might be a good move, but I guess I can plan both and kinda decide on the fly. We'll see.

Best to ya

let's ride safe and be careful out there,

BTW..........I like the matching yellow oil filter <_<
HA! I'm changing that this weekend, and did NOT go with yellow. I can't believe I'm buying oil filters based on COLOR now. "Excuse me Sir? Does this oil filter come in a Cerulean Silver?"

EDITED...

DONE. I no longer have an oil filter that clashes. A Fram TG7317, silver/gray, with black grip stuff on the end. Now my fellow FJR riders won't be embarrassed to be seen with me.

It's really not difficult, at least not with an FJR. Actually, riding an FJR is almost like cheating, it's so good. :)

We knocked the SS1000 out, 18 hours with full sitdown stop to eat, and a few slow roads. Slept a few hours, got up and 500 more miles to end the BB1500. (in that 12 hours, we still had 200 miles to get home). We wasted a lot of time, and didn't plan nearly as well as we could have. But it was fun.
