I have an SV650 for the occasional track day and puttering around, but I bought the new to me 2009 FJR to take more significant trips. Since I attended the California Superbike School earlier this year, its time to exercise the touring bike. Where better to do that than on a brief trip, i.e., only 1,000 miles--in 24 hours.
As the title indicates I'm considering either Memphis or Savannah as a halfway point on the 1,000 mile trip. With that in mind I would appreciate any suggestions for places to eat around either city that might give me a chance to sample the local cuisine without venturing into an unsafe place. I'll be using the interstates for most of the trip just to keep a fairly high average speed. If the choice is Memphis I'll be coming in on I40, and if the destination is Savannah it will be I95 and Route 17.
By the way this my first attempt at 1,000 in 24 hours, so any suggestions from those experienced in such things would be appreciated. I've read the online material on the IBA site.
p.s. I've ridden my SV on several 350 and 400 mile day trips, so I can appreciate some of the toil. I'm counting on a little better (read more comfortable) ride on the FJR.
