Work is throwing a staff appreciation day in a few weeks. In addition to craft shows, games, and refreshments, there will be a display of motorcycles owned by staff. I missed it last year, but will be participating this year. Although none of the bikes had it last year, I thought I'd make a plaque to tape on my windshield. Here's what I've got so far:

Put "(Indicated)" on the speed, we all know 160 is a lie! Plus, it implies that maybe you've actually been there. Chicks will dig that! :D

Put your odo reading on there, too, since they won't be able to see it.

The 160 is in the Bin-o-Facts, with two citations, so it must be true. :D I'm going with it. "'Won't be able to see it"?

Unless you leave the key on all day, the odo is turned off. Blank LCD screen.

0-60 in less than 3 seconds is WAY more impressive than elapsed time for 0-100 (Basically, we can KILL cars like Vettes 0-60, but they can blow by us above that) Plus, the Prius (pronounced "pious")-driving Berzerkeley crowd who'll be looking can't relate to triple-digit speeds anyway. Add in average fuel economy of 40 mpg and make the smug bastiches bleed from both ears.

************************************************

Actually, we can kill vettes up to around 110...I know for a fact, twice in fact. ;)

JB, I recommend that you do some testing to determine the 0-100-0 mph time, and put that in there. Keep the shiney side up! Maybe add in the number of gears in which you can pull the front wheel off the ground? And THEN post the 40 mpg on your placard.

DD - Since it's Berzerkely and all, be sure to include that the environmental footprint is much less (make up your own number) than driving a Prius, etc.

Also add a perfect bike for lane splitting, you can attest to that.

Add facts about L D. riders trip, the bikes multi uses, show case Reno John's bike make over with pics

Let the viewers know that the word is going to be taken over by FJR's and not to worry

Tell them about how little of a carbon footprint we leave when the bike is ridden

Just some ideas :bike:

You might want to say, "When necessary for smooth merging on short freeway on ramps."

Just to make is seem the power is used in a responsible manner. Education is a part of the display, isn't it?

Add reduced traffic congestion, less parking space required and access to the HOV commuter lanes. I'm certain you can think of other "environmentally friendly factoids" to present.

After all...er..uh...you DO wish to present the appearance of a responsible, socially conscious member of the education community.

Hans - You forgot MPG, what type of oil you use..., etc.

Those Preus drivers will hate you for having a bike that gets better mileage then their green machine, and it goes like a dragster, and is so much more fun. ;)

Oh, man, these are GREAT ideas! I'm totally re-doing the plaque. I need a bigger piece of paper....

BTW, I get ****** mileage, like 34. Prolly 'cause all the commuting. But I can claim 40?

And Patrick, I'm going with the 0-60. I have a Vet story too, but it's not for a public post. But I will say that "chickened out first" plays a role. No, t'wasn't me.

34's pretty good for what I've seen in your clutch-searing commute videos. 5 grand and 10mph is not good for gas mileage. :D And at least 40 would be a good highway number.

Speaking of video, put a litle iPod vid player on the seat looping some of your commutes!

JB, you might also want to include a list of your protective riding gear. Should you choose to do so you should also include a justification/reason for your clothing and attending riding clinics. In that reasoned explanation you'll want to include comparisons to automobile seat belts, crash bumpers, laws the outlaw distracted driving (cell phone usage, eating, make-up applying, etc.) so the interpretation by the reader would be that you are a reasonable sane person, riding safely and prepared for any unwanted incident rather than a hooligan, speed limit exceeding, maniacal commuter.

Uhm...remove the radar detector from the bike when displayed and eliminate it from your description. I mean...er...in the mind of your audience, the reason for having one of "those things" is to attempt to beat law enforcement, isn't it?

;)

I guess that kills the video loop idea . . . . .
Wellll....one can always hope that none of the attendees are cagers that've been passed on the right on an on-ramp.
