It seems there were several on here that wanted to be kept up to date on my dealing with D&H.

Did my weekly call in to Renaa at D&H asking if they had firm confirmation from Yamaha on their order for two "units" placed about 2-3 weeks ago.

Last week's call to Renaa resulted in they were pretty sure they were getting in 2 '08s and probably in July. Today's call got me: definitely getting in two in July and one in August and they'd now deposit my deposit check to hold one of the July units for me. They are going to give me a call when it comes in but I'll probably be bugging them each week to see what's up.

In the meantime I'm still riding the meanstreak and that is fine. I should have the FJR broken in by the time I head to Colorado in late August/early September for some biking and hiking in RMNP.

In the meantime I'll continue to plot out my route from Cullman to KC on my streets and trips.

Sounds good - best of luck to you. As I've said before, they are fantastic people to deal with, and the trip home is an added bonus in my book.

Drive back down to Birmingham and do:

78 to Memphis

55 North out of Memphis for a few miles

63North/East off of 55 North to Springfield Missouri

65 north to Kansas City

looks like a good ride too!

I'll check that out. Mainly looking for roads that will help with the varying of speed for the breakin.

I attended college in Springfield, am familiar with 65. Also, coming back south to B/ham allows a quick stop at Barber again.

Thanks for the tips.

Thanks for the update, Lee. I'm looking forward to your first ride report! :)

Yep, me too. Can't happen soon enough.

Traveled 300+ miles on the mean streak yesterday and even though I like it fine I was wishing I had the fjr.

Sorry, but there is no real BBQ outside of the great state of Texas.
Spoken like a true Texas Toast. :D

You said it Bubba!

GP
oh, no! not a barbeque-jack!

We could argue or boast all night long on the merits of KC bbq, southern bbq, TX bbq, etc. sweet, tangy, hot, vinagery, etc.

Just speakking for myself I've never had bad bbq....some I just like more....like Gates in KC.

LSUBOY,

I checked out your route and like it.

I was going to go from Cullman to Muscle Shoals then on to Cape Girardeau, MO then on home.

I've travelled 78 from b'ham to Memphis last summer and like that road. some where near but not in tupelo we stopped for gas on a sunday about lunch time. askked the gas station guy for suggestions for a place to eat. He pointed up the road and we stopped at a fish shack sort of place. you can't judge a book by its cover. went in and the place was fairly full. obviously it was THE place to go to after church for sunday fish dinner. we range from 52-55 and we were the youngest in the joint and about the only men. I hadn't had hush puppies for years and these were great.

Anyway, only change I'd make to your trip is coming out of springfield I'd probably take 13 instead of 65. a bit more direct.

your route with my change is 45 miles longer than my route through MShoals and Cape but probably a better route.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Did my weekly call into Renaa today at D&H...

Yamaha has sent the bike from the factory (or dock) to their warehouse, probably in Atlanta. They have not invoiced D&H yet but they expect that any day now. once the invoice is processed the bike will be shipped to D&H, sometimes w/in a day or two. Renaa expects them to have it from the warehouse w/in two weeks.

I'm targeting 8/11 to fly from KC to Huntsville for delivery that Friday. I'll take Saturday through Monday to get home over about 700 miles. Have not purchased a plane ticket yet. Really want to hear that they have the bike at their store before I do that.

I'm thinking I'll go ahead and order some sliders, take them with me and install down there. I also plan to ask them to back off the oil drain plug so I can have an easier oil change between Cullman and home. I'll buy filter, oil and gasket there to take with. I don't plan on taking my 4' length of pipe to use on my wrench on the road with me to make the first filter change.

It won't be easy waiting for delivery but work is really heavy right now so that provides me with some distraction. Plus I have the mean streak to ride in the meantime.

A few forum members have expressed interest in my experience so I'll continue to check in. Plus it gives me someting to do while I wait for delivery!

Hey Lee. Did they say they were getting in one or two more? I seem to remember you saying something about that on an earlier post.

Correct.

They told me in mid-June that they had just ordered 2 more. At that point is was a little iffy if they were going to get that order filled. I started searching for a backup plan/dealer. Then Yamaha confirmed the order, so I guess that meant that Yamaha confirmed the order for 2 units.

To be 100% sure you'd have to call them. You interested for you, for someone else or just in general?

Give them a call. You may be able to ship them to them and have them pre-installed before you get there.

It would be me that is interested. I've got one coming in fairly close to me, but it is $800 higher that D & H. Kind of want to see what the 09s look like, but we won't know till sometime around the end of September/first of October. Rats! What's a guy to do? I'm getting kind of ichy for that new bike.

I've thought about that. it's a simple install from what I understand. We'll see how it goes. I don't mind taking them with me and doing the install.
