Hi All:

I just installed a stebel air horn on my 2008 FJR...man I forgot how loud they really are.(I had two of them on my Suzuki M109R). I placed it right where the old horn was installed. Even used the same bracket to mount it on. I put in on the right side so as to be closest to the battery..... "Move Bi&^ch get out the way, get out the way" (Ludacris)

Tell me more, I have one on the RSTD and need to knowhow to put it on the FJR...
I have heard rumors of people putting it on just one bracket, but man I just don't see it. I put mine on by separating the compressor and horn and mounting the compressor, with the electrical connections, on the right side so the wiring was easy. I then ran an air tube to the other side where the horn is. To separate the two pieces I had to turn it upside down and place a screwdriver between them and hit it with a hammer. The horn is glued on, but a couple of solid strikes separated them without damaging the horn. I then dremelled off half of the semi-circular plastic bracket and drilled a hole in the horn to mount it where the left horn used to be. Oh, and you will also need to purchase a fitting for the hose to be screwed into the horn piece.

Doing it this way means that you don't have to cut any of the plastic below the fairing to make room for the horn.

I will try to remember to post pics this evening.

The FJR doesn't have a lot of room to mount a Stebel safely AND easily. Anywhere around the front forks runs the risk of clearance problems when turning lock to lock and/or hard braking (that fender moves up!). For ideas on how to mount one (including the best one - mine :) ), here's some previous threads:

Then there's always Patriots method where it's bolted to a slider. Not my cup of tea, but an easy install and no clearance issues unless you tip over. ;)

Has anyone (not me just yet) looked at hanging the stebel inside the right fairing? then making horizontal slat holes for the horn part?

The reason I ask is because that's the way the stebel was mounted on the st1300. The oem horn is actually inside the fairing and points left and forwards, with the sound going through the slat holes. Someone found a specific place you can mount a stebel and have it point in the same direction at the same height.

It may be the Feej just doesn't have any room in the fairings, I've not had a side off yet to verify that though.

Regards,

I see what you are saying and believe me it occurred to me but I have no clearance issues. I used the same bracket from the original horn. No cutting necessary. Test drove it and no probs going lock to lock. Most of the up and down of the fender happens in the center of the faring. horn is all the way to the right.
