I've been juggling around replacing my lines with SS eventually (about 4.5 years and 105k miles on these current lines but they're still just fine) and this discussion is helping quite a bit. I'm probably going to go SS for the cost - it's actually cheaper for me to do that. Probably go with Galfer or Spiegler, leaning toward the former. I haven't experienced the bulging in my OEM lines that's been discussed here. Maybe I'm just lucky?
I've ridden a few bikes that have SS lines and I do like the crisp and "instant" feel of the brakes engaging when I pull the lever in. SS lines feel better to me IMO but won't improve stopping distance. But I figure, what the heck, it's something different and I can color coordinate with custom ones.
I will probably end up rebuilding my master cylinder, rear brake caliper, and replace my rear rotor at the same time of the change. The front brake calipers were just rebuilt at 102k miles and a full brake bleed has everything nice and firm again.
