I just got the Techmount stemstand to mount my 2730 Garmin GPS. Is there any special for instaling this or just remove the factory stem nut and replace with the Techmount and retorque to the factory spec in the manual? I have the correct socket and torque wrench and will wrap the stem nut w/ tape so as not to damage the finish.

How much is the torque for the steering stem?

85 ft-lbs is the torque spec for the stem nut. Not a bad idea to take advantage of its being off to re-torque the steering head bearings if you have the proper tools.

I'm about to install a stemstand myself and I'm wonderring what socket size is required? It's not indicated on the service manual

The steering stem nut is 36mm. I would advise protecting the nut with tape (see yamahlr's post above).

If you need to get one.

You should be able to pick up that socket at a local auto place like pep boys etc, look in the air tools for the uncoated/black less expensive version

  • What part number techmount stemstand are you guys using? (o-ring stem or just the nut)
  • Will the mounting plate's pre-drilled holes match up to those on a Touratech StreetPilot III mount?
  • Can anyone confirm that the steering head nut is the same on an 06 as the previous years?
  • Can I ask anymore questions without a tomato flying my way?
Thanks!
Ryan
