I striped the threads on the allen bolt that connects the fairing to the bike, right below the oil filter.

Any suggestions on how to remove it?

thanks.

You stripped the threads? or the head of the bolt?

If it's the head, then you can drill it using a drill big enough to cut the head off. Drill only far enough for the head to come loose. Then pull the fairing away from the bike and use vice grips to get the bolt out.

Drill a hole and use an easy-out.....

Thanks for the responses.

I'm aiming to buy an easy out, after I get a replacement bolt.
??

whoa there

I'm not understanding something here. You're ready to buy a "replacement bolt"? I'm still wondering what you've stripped. I didn't offer any suggestions earlier because I was hoping you would reply to Geezer's question.

In your first post you "striped the threads", but if you're trying to remove the cap screw I'm guessing that what is really sripped is the head of the screw.

side note: this is trivial but it's only called a "bolt" if it has a nut on it.

Anyway, please describe the problem. What happened? Is your Allen key spinning on your cap screw? Is the cap screw spinning but not coming out?

There are at least two things to try before you pull out the drill & "easy outs" and there are a variety of screw extractors, some work better than others.

:poster_stupid: +1 ! Easiest solution!

Actually, the easiest solution (for a stripped head) is one of these:

Sock-It-Out

If that doesn't work, then go ahead and drill it, but use left twist drills or something like Wicked Webby suggested. At some point, the drill will grab in the hole and the screw is likely unscrew right out.

If you don't have a set of these:

(left hand drill set)

buy yourself a set for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice or whatever. Short ones are better because they're tougher and your not drilling deep anyway.
