Still getting used to my fjr and am wondering about the vents on the side of the fairing (i have an '08). I currently have them in the in position. Is this right for summer riding to keep moore heat off me? I've tried them both ways and can't seem to tell much difference. The owners manual only says open or closed.

Busted,

Now I know why my below reply didn't go through.

Here's my take on the vents.

I use them in the open position during colder weather. (farthest out position)

Not much good once you get over 45 MPH. to much wind to feel any heat above that point.

Warm weather or new england summer I leave them closed. (inner most position)

I have read hear where some southern riders open them up when it get over 100 degrees to get the air flowing through to cool things down better. That's my depth of knowledge.

Good luck,

Dave

Never noticed any sig difference when they were in the out position and it was close to the -deg C... More focused on the rubber being stuck to the road than my thigh temps. Yam engineers could have spent the two weeks and $$$ on other things.

All they do when out is deflect more of the ambient air away from your legs.

So, when stationery, they do nothing (whether or not the engine cooling fan is on).

When moving:

If the ambient air is below your leg temperature, it will be cooler with them in and warmer with them out.

If the ambient air is warmer than your leg temperature, it will be warmer with them in and cooler with them out.

But it's not a big effect. I always leave mine in 'cos it looks uglier with them out.
