My buddy DeShan and I took a little 150 mile ride down to Selma, AL today and then rode over to the archaeological park that is the site of Alabama's first state capitol, Old Cahawba. There's nothing there now except the layout of the old streets and a few remnant foundations. But one can only imagine the history that took place there in the early 1800's.
Here's just a few shots from the day.
The historic Edmund Pettus Bridge in the background.
Main St. Selma, the site of Bloody Sunday.
Then over to the old city cemetery.
The Confederate Circle, monument to Jefferson Davis
Monument to Nathan Bedford Forrest
Last surviving Confederate vet from Dallas County. Passed away in 1938.
Then it was on to Old Cahawba, located at the confluence of the Cahaba River and the Alabama River.
Very interesting story here....
Then it was time to head on back to the homestead. We were treated to a beautiful sunset this evening on the way home.
Just another gorgeous day in the Great State of Alabama!
