If you are a die hard football fan, you will be watching this game and staying home. All others put FJR's before football! So heres the tentative route, and hopefully get some feedback from all of you too.

Our Staging area will be at Exxon in Escondido between 9 and 9:30am. Its at the corner of broadway and mission ave on 78, next to the self serve car wash. We will travel on 78 through Julian to Borrego Springs, stop and have a bite to eat. From Borrego Springs we ride out to the Salton Sea to Hwy 86. Through Indio we will ride north on 10 to 74 in Palm Desert, up 7 corners into Garner Valley and stop at Paradise Corner Cafe in Mountain Center and 371. 371 to 79 into Temecula and stop at the Pachinga Casino for any last min breaks or bite to eat, before going home. At 79 & hwy 15, our OC group will probably go home through Ortega in Lake Elsinore, and anyone from San Diego can go there appropriate routes home.

Orange county guys will meet at the same meeting place. Chevron station, at Ortega & Hwy 5, east side next to Denny's in San Juan Capistrano. We will meet at 8am, kickstands up at 8:20am. Come early, have breakfast and coffee with us, and lets have a great ride!

Now be nice Larry - ya know I got a HOG as well. Plus on the ride last weekend, Jim (has a Heritage) was never that FAR behind us! Hey when I got home I was a little cold and tired, but the kids had just got out of the Jacuz, it was heated up and ready to go! It took me about 3 minutes to pour my industrial sized bourbon and coke and get into the tub - now thats living! Hey, thanks to you, Jim and Mike - that was a fun time. Don't know about next weekend, keep ya posted!

Hey Mike,

Your absolutely right, he wasn't that far behind us, we just had to catch up with you...and how fast were you going?....lol Jim will be going on the sunday ride, so if you change your mind, it would be nice to have you again. Oh BTW, if we had a GPS, we may have found a closer exit around the accident, instead of riding 60 miles out of the way, or was it 80 miles and 3 hours later?

I'm in. Really lookin' forward to it. Thanks for puttin' it on, ZZ.

You beat me to it, I just responded to your other post. Great, are you bringing the wing or the fzzz? The backside of julian has alot of fun turns, and 7 corners is just as fun. Tomorrow I'll be looking for a xm unit for my fjr, do you have a chatterbox type radio so we can chat?

I ran out and got the Chatterbox GMRS X1 after I drooled over SoCalMike's setup. i'm ready to roll. LOL

I think it was around 130 or so on that surge after we (Jim) stopped for the $4/gal gas in Borrego. That detour was a drag, up until that point it was all good. Even the detour wasn't all that bad cept for the line of cars, and trailers coming back from the desert. Although, like I said I could of done without the detour - that would have been just right if we would have been able to continue along 74, over the 'hill' and back home. But all in all - a great ride. I'll let you now about Sunday -

Mike are you going to steal your kids Ipod if you do go? Also, I have a chatterbox handheld you can use if you want to get in on the radio. Im not sure if there is a ear input, I'll have to look and will bring on sunday for ya anyways.

Fizzy,

Bought myself a $19.00 Xm radio and nylon tied it to my tank bag until I can find a permanent mount. Now I have to find a laptop mount for my mini laptop so I can blow away everyones fancy GPS's..lol

Fizzy, one thing I did learn from Chatterbox is that the GMRS X1 uses different frequencies on Channels 8+. If everyone else is using FRS radios they'll need to keep them tuned to channel 7 or below for it to work. Just an FYI...

Interesting observation Mike, you would think all the channels would be compatible.

Chris, twisties? There will many opportunities for twisties, I would say 60% twisties and 40% straights. Its just getting into the hills will be the less exciting parts, and by the way I think it will be close to the high 70's to 80's when we get to the desert.

I'm sending my Chatterbox in for a review. I think the issue I had the other day (it made a loud "squeal" when I keyed it up) was probably operator-error. I don't think I had a full charge when I started the ride so when the battery started to run low, it was having difficulty finding enough juice to transmit.

Another potential reason for the problem may be that I plugged it in long enough but the NiCAD batteries aren't holding a charge anymore (I don't cycle them like you're supposed to) so they may have gone bad from just sitting around unused.

Since I already have an RMA number I'm still going to send the unit in for a once-over just in case...
