For me the lack of elevation would be a plus......ant thing over 3000 feet and I won't be there....

R
You gotta be ******* kidding me. What? You turn into a pumpkin or something? Dude. That's where all the good **** is.
:haha: :lol2: Uh huh. You ha no trouble in Park City (7,000+ ft) and even handily beat the pack at the race track there!

Bugnatr, if we go with Colorado, it will be in August! It snowed on pinhead and Mountain Mama's Wedding Day a few years ago and that was on Labor Day (post up some pictures, Dave!).
Case in point: This was taken yesterday morning by my co-worker, Robb Pennie (a wee-stromer), just out of our office window.

But But look at those fall colors! This is the 24th and your first snow, **** it's Colorado it could snow anytime- eh Pinhead?

I still think very early Sept would be worth the gamble to avoid summer tourists. Just my .02

https://www.ouraycolorado.com/ I had lunch with my illegitimate ******* Son SkooterG yesterday at The Four Peaks Brewery in Tempe, AZ; super hot young waitress attended to us, I had to put the choke chain on GregM to keep him at bay; not an easy task!

After our 2nd pint of Pale Ale, Skooty came up with a great location and a time. Even though Ouray does not have a single hotel facility that can handle 100 SW-FOG participants, it does have several lodgings that are all within very easy walking distances.

Ouray is within easy striking distances of all of the major Rocky Mountain High Passes. Ouray also has a ton of restaurants and saloons for our evening's entertainment. Ouray is a classic and historic Colorado mountain mining town that is truly beautiful.

Also, I really do think we should consider a mid-week SW-FOG 2011; just that much easier to get rooms and less traffic than on weekends, for our two day rides. We think that Tuesday, September 6 though Friday AM, September 9 would work very well!

FOOTNOTE: I have seen it posted here "go after Labor Day when the kids are in school". Are you folks aware that this is a "Kalifornia" thing? My Sisters are both California School Teachers and it is true their kids go back to school after Labor Day each year.

But, in the Southwest States that's not entirely accurate. Here in Arizona, our students go back to school on the last day of July; Seth returned to classes on July 26. My Nephew Ernie in Eagle Nest, New Mexico always went back on second Monday in August!

POSTSCRIPT: Great News, SkooterG bought his own lunch yesterday with his own money! I am so damn proud of him; and my wallet and I are just so damn happy, too!

OK - I loved Toas/Taos and the rides, not to mention SW Colorado, but here is another suggestion - How about Springerville or Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ. This puts you in easy access for a long day ride down US180 in NM, and up the Devil's Highway/US191 - one of the world's premier rides. Add in Salt River Canyon, and AZ260 and you have some rides worth consideration. There is a casino in Pinetop that could handle our group as well as several motels in Springerville. Also the Ski resort at Sunrise. Just for your consideration.
I like it. Purely selfish, but those Colorado roads are already within my reach. :p

It'd be nice to have a place normally outside of my normal "radius"
I've been told roads in NE Missouri are very challenging......by Iowa riders.

Don, I went through Ouray on the way home from SWFOG and what a clusterfuck that was. With the steep grades south of town and motorhomes I got to enjoy first gear- a lot :angry2: !

I had been warned by Colorado riders that even though 550 is great the tourist traffic sucks, they were right. Gunnison or Pagosa Spgs. may be closer to more road choices and most likely cheaper too.

Also it isn't just when kids are in school - ours star mid August, but just the summer tourist traffic that slows after Labor Day makes travel easier. Those Sept. dates look good. Now I'm up to 4 cents.

Well, I'm not too sure what my friend from Missouri is saying here, but if you want to see a great description of the Devil's Highway, check out Beemerdon's post on the "Compare: Dragon Tail / Devil's Highway" thread (page 1). I've been through Missouri and it is a state with some beautiful areas - but nothing to compare to the Devil's highway. - Just saying.

Gunnison, Taos or Montrose, and I'll have to make a week of it. Won't matter when it's scheduled, since precipitation appears to follow me on these trips.

Sooo,...Taos it is?

+1, Gunny! I certainly could live with SW-FOG 2011 being in Taos at Kachina Lodge again, they treated us well and the prices were super reasonable. Mick, perhaps the Second Time would be the Charm, to get that DickChin Bustanut joker to attend. The *******! Or as Petey would say: Der Jack Wagen!

I was joking. That's why I go to Colorado, N.M., Arkansas. W. V., TN, etc.....

Oh you poor *******. If I was you and had to look at that every day, I might just drive my FJR over a cliff. That's looking out the window of your office??!! Unless they are doing some kind of anal-probe testing, you shouldn't be complaining.

Walking away talking to self:

What a dip-****. Wee, wee, wee...It was cold outside my office. **** it that my view should be put on a postcard and sold.

:jester:

Oh you poor *******... blah, blah, blah, blah... you shouldn't be complaining.
Jaysus! I can't believe they let someone with your reading comprehension carry a gun! No complaints here sheep licker. Read it again. ;)

:p

So were you bitchin' because you have to share the office.... or cus you only have one window.... or because it is at work?????????

Sorry.... just had to jump in. My office looks into a hallway, I'll just say my office window overlooks the strip area. We call it "nuts and butts"!!! Get the idea? Talk about a view!

Yeah...I can probably get about 8 shirts that say "Tevils Driangle", or "Nuggison Colorado"

Ouray is a very nice place to go to, lots of mountian road access and facilities for visitors. But a little spendy, We stayed at the Best Western Twin Peaks this july and they got $170 a night  the food at the hotel was crap, but there are some good places to eat within walking distance, hell the whole town is within walking distance for that matter. You can't beat the riding in that area though. Maybe Durango would be a little cheaper and almost the same access, just a thought. Looking forward to it, where ever is is.

I really wish I could have made it to Taos. Way to many things going on this year to make it. All good things so I have know complaints. I have been looking at all the pics any Video's? My son that works at the local yamahaha shop wants me to buy this HD Camera to use when I am riding. What that means is I will buy it and he will borrow it and go jumping 120 footers with his friends on YZ250's with it.

For September Weather maybe southern Utah,Bryce Zion all that. Has anyone gone up Hwy 12 past Bryce that looks interesting? And Vegas is near. Hotel Rates in those areas are always good. We can cruise through small Mormon town and check out the husband to wife ratio. Who would want more than one wife anyway are they nuts!
