Huh...sounds like my BMW GS prior to the "canisterectomy"...Remember, I'm near Taos so if Mike ends up this direction and needs a hand I'll find a trailer and go get 'im. If it comes to that PM me and leave a phone number. I'll get back to you asap.

Since I know SacMike so well. Hey Mike, take off the parking brake and shift out of first gear.

I have been trying to reach you by cell phone with no luck. If you see this call me, we are in Utah today and Colorado tomorrow.

Thx for all the ideas. Stayed in Moab to tour the parks today (awesome). Bike still not right but runs close to normal once rpms are up. No PCIII and dash lights, windscreen and glove box normal. The mystery continues. If nothing else Ill take it to thr Yama shop in OK City after Taos. Nice how things like this always hit on the weekend, huh?

So then the horn not working must be unrelated to the other problem.

You could still try unplugging the O2 sensor, and see if that changes the symptom.

Also could go through all the sensor readings in the Diags screens looking for some other sensor out of whack. If you need a copy of their meanings (codes) I can forward them to you.

Hopefully, if you bring it into a shop they have someone able to find the problem. Ross Kean was not so lucky in Vermont. He visited the shop a couple of times while there and still had problems on his way home. His symptoms (somewhat similar to yours) turned out to be a pinched O2 sensor wire.

Well, Mike made it to Taos, but left there on Thursday. Hycle and some others looked at Mike's bike and realized one cylinder wasn't firing.

So...Mike took the bike to a dealership here in Albuquerque and left it with them. He hopped a plane to OK city and is hoping for a reasonably priced diagnosis before he's scheduled to fly back to pick the bike up.

The guys he left the bike with are great, and will get to the root of the problem. Here's hoping the problem is easy and inexpensive to fix. I'm thinking its just a bad wire or connection somewhere, but what the Hell do I know??

More to come...

Thanks for the update, 'Zilla. Hopefully, it's simple and inexpensive enough that he can ride home on four cylinders on schedule.

He must have been getting pretty bad gas mileage on 3 cylinders. Can't help but wonder where all that fuel getting sprayed into the intake tract of the non-firing cylinder might have been going -- hopefully, very little got past the rings and into the oil.

It is probably more likely that a one cylinder problem is Fuel Injection / injector related than ignition. Remember, we fire two plugs at once. If one plug, wire or coil is bad you'd lose two cylinders and I don't think it would even run.

Mi Hermano SacramentoMiguel: Mike, please check in with us and let us know your current status. I just want to make sure that you are safe and sound wherever you are at. All of the other SW-FOG 2011 Attendees have checked in on their return home and I just want to make sure that you are A-OK also!

I wonder if SacMike don't have internet service where he is...

He called me last night. Bobby J's Yamaha here in Albuquerque finished his bike and said it is running fine. Something about the cylinders and valves being tight, preventing one from firing.

All was adjusted and the bike is ready to go.

If you remember Don, I said Mike hopped a plane to Oklahoma City and will be there till Friday. I'll go get his bike later this week and store it here. I'll pick him up from the airport on Friday. On Saturday, he, or we will head out; taking the long way back to Sacramento.

Our weekend plans will determine if I take off with him or not.

Either way, Mike is fine and is hanging out with his brother in OK. No idea when he'll post up again though.

Great to hear it was only tight valves and no other damage. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Wow. Really? Tight valves as in not enough clearance?

I wonder when (if ever) they were last checked.

This has to be the first time I've heard of an FJR engine not running right due to a valve clearance issue.

Well except for Howie and ionbeams, but those were a bit more of an acute clearance problem.

Be interested to hear what the complete diagnosis and repair was.
