OK so with some family issues that I've been dealing with, I've done ZERO prep for the 09 IBR. I'm currently in 'bustin ***' mode and hoping to knock out a few rides between now and then. I've given up on my "Top 20" dreams, and just want to be a finisher at this point.

So how is the rest of the 09 IBR riders around here fairing? Is anyone else feeling the crunch as the time quickly approaches? Everyone got the **** in one sock, or are you still trying to gather it up.

 
I'm still undecided about mounting my frigging top case. Stay with the current setup, go with the stock rack, with a plate, without a plate? But that's minor. I could ride the rally tomorrow. What's left? New brake pads, FD gear oil change, that's it. Everything else is done. Let's roll.

Well right now the bike is partially disassembled in my garage. Fairings are off, and so is the front nose of the bike. Rewiring a few things and removing 4 of the 6 HID ballasts I had. Then its just basic stuff for the bike like oil change, tire change, and mounting the fuel cell. I'm off camping this weekend so I'll have the bike buttoned up Monday or Tuesday evening.

I'm more worried about me. With so little riding that I've done this year I really think the 11 days are going to take a toll quickly. This is why I'm going to try and get a few good LD rides in. Not that it can help that much, but I'll take any little bit I can get at this point!

While I wanted the FJR to be in more 'IBR ready' shape, the Utah1088 was a good shakedown run as I discovered all kinds of **** to keep me busy.

Figure out why my heated liner blows my Heat Troller

Figure out why 8 of 9 attempts to turn on PHIDs only turns the right one on.

Install Datel voltmeter.

Install Carbon Fiber stator cover.

Re-route and re-construct Hydration line routing so they won't go looking for the rear wheel anymore.

Figure out why I can't get my cell phone to cooperate with the Autocom. Either by cord, or via 2820 Bluetooth.

Install new Aux light switch if time permits. (It probably won't)

Mount a set of tires on the spare set of wheels and ship them off to our bi-atch in Kali!

Make and emergency ignition switch bypass kit.

Service the fuel tank cap. (Can you say the hot temps during the Utah1088 resulted in three different types of fuel cells puking gas from the main tank to the cell and out the vent line? WTF?!?!)

Oh yeah, and install the replacement Spiegler brake line when it gets here. As well as the replacement caliper bolts when they get here.

I'm almost ready still looking for a bucket for my water jug and need to do oil/drive train. I'll do a tire change in SC then I should be ready to go. Does anyone know of a good dealer around Spartanburg for tires?

The job has been keeping me close to home so I have not been doing any rallies. I have gotten in several long rides so I hope I'm ready.

I'm going crazy trying to put a packet together with all the info needed for the start :dribble: .

I'm happy to say my months of planning, riding, and preparation have resulted in me n' CrZy8 being in top form and ready for anything.

Let's see now, if I knock off, say, 200 miles per day, I should finish when again? :rofl:

Hey, can I ride with you and Igster into the rally? Your twisties route looks fun. Imagine not two but THREE IBR bikes strafing the Dragon. Bwa ha ha!

My plan is currently to go from Des Moines, IA, to Spartanburg in a SS1K on the Thursday before. If you guys wait for me in STL, it could happen. Or hell, maybe we could meet in Nashville. We could meet up at the monument dedicated to Dolly Parton's ****.

I think you would be better off if you waited till about August 15th to decide what to do here.... it makes it more exciting!

Good to see you back in Art. Throwing fresh money after the money you've sunk into this endeavor is a mark of a true LD rider. ;)

My only big ones are:

  • Remounting an HID ballast in the nose...the super-duper sticky tape seemed to be not so super-duper and is rattling around.
  • Replacing my GPS audio cable. There's an intermittent short because I think the metal has rubbed off or deformed on the earphone jack that plugs into the GPS.
I'm going to live with the fuel tank pressure issue. I've gotten quite adept at moving my tank bag to the side in 90+ degree temperatures and opening the tank while underway for fuel cell transfer. I still think us fuel cell users haven't totally figured out the full mechanics of the FJR venting system...or what is standard and what is not.

You should dump those POS old lamps.... when I introduced the PHIDs into the LD community over 5 years ago, they were pretty good lamp at the time. But a lot has changed since then, and I am now ready to introduce a new de facto standard aux lamp into the LD scene...

The brand new "4GHID Aux Lamps" from futurevisionhid.com.... this flippin' lamp is The Answer that most of us seek in a aux lamp:

  • A larger reflector housing than the PHIDs (~ 4"), but not the humongus dinner-plate-size housing and associated wind-drag of the Hella and PIAAs.
  • The ignitor is built into the rear of the lamp, but has a separate ballast to keep the lamp weight down to appropriate levels.
  • This lamp has a serious downrange punch because it has a much, MUCH superior reflector housing design than the PHIDs. Yet, the periphery coverage is also excellent.
  • I'm working with FuturevisionHID.com for a mondo Group Buy, but IBR entrants will get first crack at these lamps, then I'll open this up to our forum, AdvRider, and the LD lists... this is a vastly superior lamp to the PHIDs, and costs the same BEFORE a Group Buy discount...

As to your mounting of these lights, it doesn't look like you can rotate them along the y-axis for fine tuning the aim. Is this so?

How do they compare weight-wise to the PHIDs?

How big are the ballast compared to the PHIDs?

Got any side-by-side photos the the PHIDs?

So same bulb technology and wattage as the PHIDs, just better reflector?

And who the hell is mdisher?

He had a compelling reason for a one-time member display name change. Not very usual and I'd rather not do them, but you'll notice his title shows his former name. Avatar and other details are the same so he's not in the Witness Relocation Program. ;)
