I'll let you know how the table saw works out and thanks again for everyone's comments.

Congrats. Be sure to check the saw carefully and adjust the top to get it parallel to the miter slot. Very few are dead on when new. There are some good articles in several woodworking magazines that talk about the theory of how to set up saws that are very helpful.

I come from a family of woodworkers. My Dad and his brother were professional cabinetmakers. They inherited the business (started as Paternmakers)
Wow, ....Patternmakers, is not a term most people know about Fred. I was a Patternmaker in the late 70's. I served a (5) year apprentice and was a journeyman for (5) years before I left the firm. Actually, when I was serving my apprenticeship the average age of a Patternmaker in New England was 56 years old. A dieing trade to say the least.

Sorry I drifted alittle. :)

Interesting. What a small world.

By the time that I spent a summer working in my father's shop (it was called Cambridge Pattern Works, long closed now) they were no longer in the patternmaking business. The demand for wood patterns had shrunken to the point where they had to branch out into mostly cabinetmaking. One summer is all I needed to know I was not going to be a cabinetmaker.

One of the bigger new accounts was making speaker cabinets for the Bose corp in Framingham, MA. I spent the better part of my time there making the cabinets for the 901's, which were all wood at that time. Anyone that has a set of 1974 vintage Bose 901's, I probably slapped those bad boys together. Most of them probably fell apart ;)
