Hi!

My name is Igor and I own a Yamaha FJ1100 1984.

The reason I am writing here is because I'm going to make some changes on this bike.

I want to change the front cowl from the FJ 1100 to the FJR 1300 02-05. That isn't a big deal. But ( and that's why I am writing here) i want to change the Tachometer to.

The speedsensor at the motor from the FJR hast to be re-located to the front wheel and by that I have to use a single magnet instead of four. There is a company who sells the Speedohealer so I can cope with that problem.

The main problem is that the Signal from the Speedsensor gets into the ECU and afterwards to the Tachometer so I am here to ask you guys if anyone knows or can take a look what kind of signal is coming out of there.

The reaon is that I want to know if I can build a small Micro-procesing Unit so i dont have to build the whole ECU into my bike

If there are any further questions just aak me and i hope someone can help me build my dreambike !

Greetings from Austria !!!

Have a nice day !

Well I have no idea how to even start, but I am intrigued. Hope you post some pictures of your project along the way.

I gotta ask - what possessed you to try this?

At the Moment the bike is totally torn apart and I start rebuilding it in June ( after the Finals during this Semester)

I wanted to do this because I like the FJR Tachometer and due to the upper cowl change to the one of the FJR it would be nice if the Tachometer would fit also !

Otherwise I have to use a Tachometer from another company ( most of them are ugly ) or i have to fit in the FJ 1100 Tachometer and thats not possible because it gets the signal via speedometer cable and the Front will be changend next week to the Forks of the ZX9R and wheel of the YZF 1000

;D

Interesting project - I wonder how it will look when it's done. Are you using just the "nose" piece from the FJR or the rest of the fairing as well? How will it affect the air flow around the FJ's air-cooled engine?

Sorry, I can't help with the instruments. You mentioned ZX9R forks and YZF1000 wheel - How many bikes are going into this build??

Honda VFR750R rear swing arm as well ;)

When I am at my computer i will post some pictures ;)

I can't upload them from my phone

They main problem is that I need someone with a FJR from 2002-2005 who can help me by looking what kind of Signal the bike is sending to the Tachometer ! ;)

Why do you then have "2004 (Gen I) Euro/Other" as your bike in your profile? Do you not have an FJR yourself? If so, I'd suggest changing your status.

Because the Upper cowl and the Tachometer I will use are coming from the Modells 02-05 RP08 - RP11

I thought that was the right thing to do.

Otherwise should i just take the one "other / considering FJR "

Hi Guys ,

I got new informations !

The hall effect sensor is giving a sinus wave to the ECU that will convert that signal into a Square Signal.

So I talked with a friend and he said by using a Schmitt Trigger ( converter into square signals ) the Tachometer switch should work after that.

Speedo signal from the ECU is 100 pulses per rear wheel rotation. I think you will have trouble getting that off a magnetic wheel sensor unless you have an electronic box to multiply the signal. It is an interesting project - good luck and let us know how it goes.
