:dribble: Hi All,

My 08 started making a chattering sound (real loud!) when raising or lowering the windscreen after about 3K miles since new. I had installed the Yamaha tall windscreen right after I got the bike.

The dealer's tech said that the guide tracks are bent from the added load of the taller windscreen. He went on to say he's seen several like this, all had taller screens installed. It looks like they will fix it this time, but that it will likely happen again if I stay with the taller screen.

This sucks as it was a Yamaha accessory! Has anyone else had issues with this?

Cheers,

Dano

Uh, I call Bullshit on that. Especially since you were running a Yamaha screen.

I'm personally not aware of many windshield motor/track failures, and there are plenty of bikes with big screens.

I would be willing to bet your windshield got bumped or hit or something. Just my take.

Dano,

What do you mean by a Taller windscreen. I have been using the +4+2 CeeBaileys for about 3 years and experience nothing what you are talking about.

Sounds like your dealer is Blowing Smoke you Know Where... get this taken care of before your warranty runs out.

Good Luck with your fix.

It is the 4" taller one from Yamaha for the FJR. I thought it seemed a little strange since I know that lot's of people are using them. They are going to cover it under warranty. They did say it will likely happen again if I keep the tall screen. Seems fishy to me...

Sounds like BS to me.

I've had my CalSi xxtall screen on my bike about 2 1/2 years now and not a lick of problems. Have them show you the bent items. Make sure it's fixed when you take delivery.

Sounds more like the rubber weather strip is getting loose and getting in the way.

Brodie

I agree with Brodie. All FJR's eventually have loose rubber gaskets around the mechanism. When the rubber binds up, damage can occur. I removed my rubbers (uh oh) after 3 failed attempts using a variety of glues. Additionally, I've been using the barn door of a screen (Rifle Huge) since 2006, and I ride 6 miles of horrible dirt road every day, and all is fine. I don't believe the tech's statement, respectfully said.

I'm going to agree with dcarver on this one. I have over 70K miles of oversize windshield on my Gen I's with no problemo.

I'd more believe Don's assessment and the dealer wants to blame an oversize windshield that thousands of FJR owners have in use. There has to be other circumstances and he has jumped to this convenient conclusion.
