If I'm in the 'hood, I'll pop it off and bring it wiff me, yo. But around town and peripheral areas, I usually leave it on and take the valuables and lock 'em in the side cases. Course, I'm an ugly, grouchy old **** with a perpetual scowl - that tends to ward of the bad guys...

I wondered about that myself, but so far, no one has. I have nothing in it that I couldn't afford to lose though, and if they want my favorite brand of rubbers and 2 obsolete maps that bad, welcome to 'em... Won't get much at Crack-O-Rama for that. :D

That is why I have always wanted to put all of my things into locked / attached hard cases to the bike. I realize that people can still take them, but I would hope someone would notice somebody "vandalizing" my bike as opposed to "walking off" with something from my bike.

Best regards,

Shane

I've used many tankbags over the years, most with positive results. IMHO Tourmaster's Tri-Bag system is my favorite.

It's a backback, a mini tankbag, an expandable duffle...

I give it the maximum positive point rating in all the categories that you mentioned.

Yeah...I kinda like it.

+1 on the Tri bag, use the small bag on weekend trips, the large one on extended trips or the both zip together for a REALLY big bag.. you need to have long arms to use this combo :D

Use it as a mag mount, or connent the strap for double security, pull out the concealed back pack straps, and head for the hotel.

Also great as a pillow on long rides!

I use a Road Wired kit from Aerostich to secure the bag from walking away, loop it around the tank brace under the seat , thread it up and lock both zippers together to keep the honest people honest.

I have a Joe Rocket magnetic. The only place that could mar the tank was the strap designed to go around below the bars...I wrapped all that in duct tape to make sure it didn't rub.

The one I have is big, two section and you can unzip the top from bottom so you can bring a smaller one if you want. It also have straps to make it a daypack.

It hasn't marred the tank and hasnt' flown off and hasn't created a problem with turning.

Here it is loaded up:

Here it is sitting on my seat as I fuel (took .16789 seconds to move)

Do I like it? I use it and ahve not considered replacing it so I must!

plus it comes with rain covers for both the top or the bottom.

I have an ICON Urban Magnetic Tank Bag - it holds a lot but I don't like it anymore - when full it is so long that when I turn left it bumps my horn (which now loud with Magnum Blasters). It doubles as a backpack but I don't use it for that - just my FJR long trips. It has a lot of room but no rain cover and it is not waterproof. I would not buy it again although I do know a lot of riders that love it. I now have my eyes on the Bagster setup thanks to Twowheelnut and Mogan showing off the beautiful pitures. :p

Dammit!! I waited too long to get the Bagster setup and they've discontinued all the old bags and maybe even the tank covers for the FJR!

Bikejohnny is the only place I could find that even lists the tank covers and they don't list any bags. S**t!!!

Hey Orangevalefjr:

...don't you guys need license plates in Kalifornia?

I forgot to mention the bag I have on my other bike. It's the best made bag I've ever seen. Only drawback is price. Marsee

Chris,
I was using a Case Harper similar to Randy's for 3 years. On my FZ1 then on the FJR. The only issue I had with it was keeping things organized. Everything just got jumbled around too much.

Then I came across the Rapid Transit Recon 19. Sorry I don't have a link to it but just do a search and you'll find plenty of places that carry it. I found mine on ebay for around $80.

This thing is pack full of features and fits nicely on the bike.

Magnetic, also has D-rings to attach included carrying straps that convert to packpack.

cell phone pocket w/ view window.

intigrated rain cover that stores in its own zippered pocket in front of bag.

seperate pocket for sunglasses.

left and right inside and outside pockets.

inside pocket for mp3 player w/wheather proof hole to route wire through.

also set up for hydration blatter.

This bag was well thought out and desined.

the only thing is the map pocket is too narrow and not removable. A non issue for me now that I got a GPS.

The hieght is not obstuctive.

Check it out. I think you'll like it. Other riders that have seen it on my bike have ask me about it and said they wanted one.

Tim

+1 for the Recon 19 Got mine w/hydration bladder at : www.newenough.com

Don't know if you still want one, but Bounce has one of the silver covers for sale in the Classified section....
