I should stop reading this thread. Every time I do, I am reminded that the $3k I underpaid in 2011 is merely 6% of my total tax bill. If anything, it is a good reminder that I should take more time off without pay, as the additional income at my marginal tax rates just isn't worth it.

Are we talking Q1 of 2012 business taxes?

I'm asking because my personal/household taxes for 2011 were filed and the refund received at the end of February and the $4k return went into my retirement fund (less the $200 for insulation for The Shop).

Hey Assland:

If that's true, your tax bill is almost twice what I earn in a year as a teacher here in Florida. Good for you dude. Sounds like even though your tax bill is a bunch, you've got a lot to be thankful for.

Bounce:

I was checking out the link you provided for the shop. Nice looking workmanship. Living in Florida, I don't see much insulating going on in outdoor structures. Are you going to heat/air condition this workshop?

For the past three years we've been paying someone else to do our taxes. I get a whole week of my life back every year!

I wish our politicians would stop bickering about making one group pay more so another group can pay less. They should REALLY be talking about simplifying the tax code so it isn't insanely complicated to figure them out.
In case you are too young, or simply don't remember, taxes were "SIMPLIFIED" back in the 1980s. After the Congress and President were done with it, the new "simplified" system was better known as: "The CPA's and Tax Preparer's full employment act". Every time Congress gets involved in anything, my life get worse.

A/C is more important here than heat. I've had my kids ask me if I was going to put a 120v "window" unit in. I'm not sure. Nothing's framed for it and there are no windows. It started as a storage shed. :)

I'll post updates somewhere as the web page progresses.

My wife did ours, spent many hours on them due to my company being bought out, stock options, etc. I will not complain as I did pretty good in the deal but that is the first (and hopefully LAST) time I have ever sent a five-figure check to the .gov for taxes! Made my heart flutter to see it come out of the account. :-(
