Bumping this thread since this topic has re-surfaced. My 2014 temp display does this fluctuation and I'm not the least bit worried. In fact, I discovered this problem in Montrose, Colorado last year on my trip (a couple of days before I crashed). I pulled into the Yamaha dealer and asked the service manager if I had a problem. He consulted with a technician and both of them informed me that Yamaha acknowledges the problem as normal. The technician described it as basically the thermostat opening and closing with the fluctuation in coolant temperature from the radiator doing its job under relatively cooler conditions.
Ionbeam's "sampling" explanation seems logical to me as well. But I'm curious.
The parts breakdowns don't say where the coolant temperature sensor is. Typically it is located on the cylinder head, but I cannot be sure. Can anyone confirm EXACTLY where the temp. sensor is located, and where the sampling is taken, relative to the thermostat for the cooling system?
