Black Cherry '07, 6100 miles. Runs great, looks great. Dealer is telling me 10,500 OTD. Seems pretty reasonable.

Very comfortable, very smooth. Actually feels easier to ride at 110 than my CBR1100XX, actually - but I'm guessing that's a function of the windscreen. Seems to have some vibes from 4K-5K (but again, the Blackbird is so smooth, everything else has vibes).

Riding position is really really comfortable, and it still turns in pretty well. Takes a bit more effort than the XX, but holds a solid line once it's heeled over.

92F here today; could feel some heat off it on my ankles through jeans and my Justin boots. Not terrible, just announcing that "hey, this baby's cookin' down here". It does feel that the CBR would absolutely destroy the FJR as far as pure acceleration, but it's like comparing a Corvette Z06 to a funny car - the CBR1100XX was built to go REALLY fast.

Top gear roll ons are smooth, but again, the CBR would eat the FJR for lunch here.

Kinda figuring that 70% of the performance (figuring that 130+ is realistically the domain of the CBR) may be worth 200% of the comfort.

Now, questions:

Are all 2007 models ABS? This one had ABS, but I'm curious.

Anything to look for? First thing to fix is the horrible off/on throttle transition - there's a spring fix or a throttle tube, yes?

FJR performance: Any quick/easy mods, that don't affect drivability, reliability? I'm willing to live with 1-2 MPG if there's a significant improvement. I realize that anything (except an Eye-Abuser or ZX14) is slower than the Blackbird - but can the FJR be lit up a bit?

I'm 6'2", with a 34" inseam. The air around the factory shield seems a bit dirty. I'd like a 1" taller,1" wider shield - any recommendations? CeeBailey... ?

Sounds like a good deal. Comfort will surely outlast speed if you intend to use it for trips.

1. All 07's have ABS.

2. You can adjust the throttle spring (do a search on here)

3. Try the PCIII

4. Just installed a CB +2+2 with flip (i'm 6'1") and it makes all of the difference. I am very happy with it and wouldn't have any other size for year round riding.

Buy it... You won't regret it.

I have an 2007.

The addition of a G2 Throttle tube was all it took for me to be happy with the throttle response.

I'm 6'4" and have tried every sheild except the rifle. The Cee Bailey should be a perfect fit for you - I ended up liking the CalSci Xl myself - but really like the looks and shape of the Cee Bailey +4 +4 - I need about another inch to make it perfect I think.

LOL Yup - there's "really fast" and then there's "Ludicrous speed!" :)

6'3" here. Just installed a V-Stream shield from National Cycle. and love it. Almost *too* quiet. Was out today when a guy pulls up behind me really fast. Rolled on more throttle and left him behind quickly. I was thinking to myself, "He gave up pretty easy" when I looked down at my GPS speedo and it said I was doing 125mph...the original shield would have warned me well in advance of that speed with its freight train of wind noise. :)

My answer to two of your questions: The G2 Ergo throttle tube goes a long way toward solving the throttle issue. Maybe not all the way, but a long way. Others swear by Power Commander, but I haven't gone there yet.

As to the shield, I'm running an XL CalSci. I'm 6'1" with a 34" inseam. I can put the screen all the way up and sit in absolute silence behind it, and still look over the top at the road ahead. Roll it down an inch and its still quiet, the view is better, but somebody is brushing a little whisk broom on the top of the helmet. Not bad at all. All the way down and it is clear air on the entire helmet. I ride with an XXL HJC CL-14, which is my quietest helmet (Way quieter than my Shoei which costs a couple hundie more). With the screen all the way up I can ride with the helmet face shield open at pretty high speeds.

In my experience on several of these boards, one of the most subjective issues about which there is the most debate is the screen/helmet combination. You may spend a thousand trying different ones, but there is a combo out there for you. On my Tiger I went through four or five shields before I settled on a CeeBailey, although I was never really satisfied. For my money on the FJR CalSci is a good place to start. The service was great. They let me send back a Large which I found just a bit too short. The XL is great FOR ME. Might work for you. You're about my size. I'd say give it a try. Talk to Mark on the phone first. He's very friendly and helpful.

I had a '99 Blackbird, and at one time considered it the smoothest thing out there. A number of bikes later I had a ZX-14, and it made the XX seem like a cammy small block in need of a tune. The ZX is smooooove incarnate, and wholly a wonderful piece of machinery in every respect. I put 27,000 miles on mine in 14 months and change.....but it is not the king of comfort on long trips.

Three weeks ago I bought a 2007 FJR with 1,177 miles on it. A good buddy of mine just won an ebay auction for a 2006 with 1,278 miles on it - and I told him if he won the auction, I'd ride from Denver to Detroit for the purchase, and back as far as Colorado. So my three week old bike has over 5100 miles on it thanks to this weekend's trip....and I couldn't be more pleased.

Comfort, range, motor, chassis, and brakes....and excellent on all counts.

I'm glad too, the only FJR I'd ridden was another friend's 2004 - on a long road trip with me on the ZX-14. The FJR didn't feel fast or smooth compared back to back with the 14....but it is fast enough and smooth enough to be excellent. I'm 6'-1" with 34" inseam, and with the seat raised it is as close to the perfect riding position for me I've found.

I sold my Blackbird to buy my 07 FJR. I had the same observations as you, but really no regrets on the trade. The FJR is just so much more comfortable, even if power and performance is down a little.

First thing I did was the throttle spring unwind and adjusting the slack out of the cable. Then I added the G2 throttle tube. Those mods really helped throttle control on the FJR. About a week ago I also added a Power Commander and it helped a lot also. I'm now very happy with the FJR throttle.

The windshield had to go also. For winter I use a Vstream and for summer I have a Cee Bailey +2 high flip screen. Both are excellent for smooth air for my 5'11" 32" inseam body. The Vstream is just too warm for summer use.

You can't go wrong with the FJR, except maybe by paying too much for one. Check kbb.com or nadaguides.com for used pricing.

Buy it, you wont be sorry!
I agree, buy it you won't regret it.

However, $10,500 OTD for an '07 with 6100 miles doesn't sound like a great deal. I'd offer $9500 OTD - you don't have anything to lose.
I don't know if pricing is much different where you are at but down here around the S.E. I think that would be fair price considering that is including all the dealer ******** and tax. I paid a little more than that for about the same bike except it already had some Farkles included and I bought from a private party to avoid sales tax. You might try and talk them down a little or maybe some free or reduced price gear.

$10,800 is about the best I could find around here before tax, I ended up flying to Miami and riding back to Atlanta and still think that I came out ahead, Just my opinion. If you really want see what the market has out there check Craigslist in multiple cities within 250 miles or so and that will give you a good idea.

I'm going to pull the trigger - I'll hit the dealer tomorrow morning. My knees actually seem a little more uncomfortable on the FJR than the CBR - like that half-folded spot doesn't work ...? Any comfort/long-haul suggestions?

I also have knee issues so I have two suggestions:

(1) put the seat to the highest setting if you feel comfortable at stop lights - - -

(2) Get a set of Leo's highway pegs. They install into Motivation and other sliders and they are in a great position for highway cruising. You can email him at Leo Drolet [[email protected]] He will send you pics. They install really easily and they work.

Ok, it's tomorrow!! It's the **** ain't it? Enjoy your new ride
