I was a little disappointed in the Held gloves. While my hands suffered no injury, the palm protector ripped apart.
How old were those Helds?

I had some for about a year, and suddenly a hole appeared in the right thumb. Apparently, they make those things out of the skin of dead animals, and they just seem to decompose from the time the animal died. Who'da thunk?

My new Cycleport stretch Kevlar gloves won't be having that issue...

If a conditioner is not used, when leather dries out, even the most expensive leather gloves will tear and abraid very easy. Leather will dry out from extended exposure to the elements. When sweating or when leather gets wet from rain your hands can become the same color of the dye used on the glove. These problems will never happen with the new Kevlar Glove.
I'd take this opportunity to seriously consider upgrading all my apparel to their gear. Jus' sayin'....And don't treat the street like a track! :nono:

Sorry to hear about the high speed dismount ,,, glad you're OK and look like the MC gear

did it's job...

169 K miles ,, I'm impressed ,,, must have been a might good bike,,,

time for a shiny new one..,,,

GLAD you are OK......... :yahoo:

I still am wondering how good the pie was.........."Dale" ate it, didn't he?....you suspect him? I do....I'd want my pie back.

Thanks for posting photos. Glad that hole was not in your knee. Amazing how fast that can happen. I've had a number of close calls on the short side of Palomar - always going down.

Sorry 'bout your bike, but thank God you're OK! There's a lot to be said for wearing the right gear. As stated earllier, bikes can always be replaced (Also, what a GREAT excuse for a new FJR :yahoo:

Sorry to hear about the get off. I'd suggest you buy replace 'er with a nice 07 AE. Who knows, there might be a southern apple pie waiting in the saddle bag when you pick it up.

Great review of your mishap. The gear did its job for the most part, except the gloves, I had a similar thing happen 6 years ago with my leather kevlar knuckled ones they ripped badly but my hands were not hurt. Interesting that it happened going down the mountain. One of the odd things I have noticed on my tires , is I very much favor left leaning vs right. I am also right handed but left eye dominant. I have an idea that it comes into play and am planning on running it by my eye doc when I see him next month. 168k is impressive!

Thats a bummer. Its nice you were well enough to ride it home. I could get the wife to make you an apple pie if it would make it to CA.

Glad to hear you're OK brother :clapping:

It's never a bad idea to ride ATGATT...Excellent Choice :clapping:

Thanks for posting. These stories are always an excellent reminder for me!

Sorry to hear about the pie though... :angry2:

You could sell those pics to whoever you bought those sliders from. What a testimonial!

I'm glad to hear you are ok. From the looks of the sliders and the missing foot peg, you were really moving when it hit the ground.

The lower slider looks to be broken. What brand was it?

Do you plan to make an insurance claim on the accident? Can you make a claim like that without a police report?

Hey Steve,

Glad you are still with us with all parts still attached ! So sorry 'bout the bullet though, but its great to see the beloved "Barons" ride will be in great hands and useful again...he would be proud ! Sharing this also reminds us to ATGATT always....I slip up now and again due to the heat down here...Thanks for the reminder and may your new steed be as reliable and long-lived as the bullet was !

We are Blessed !

Well, I think our boy is busy working, so I'll answer some questions.

Steve's old mileage king 03 FJR is gone, the insurance company picked it up after he stripped it of the 'good stuff'. A sad thing. Too bad for him too as he was crushing me in our 'quest to 200k contest', though I had not yet conceded. Still, it looked like I was going to owe him a dinner.

Steve was compensated very well for his 03 168k FJR by the insurance company. But that's his story.

And for those that didn't catch it yet, he has already purcashed another FJR. A certain 05. That just happend to belong to our beloved twowheelnut. He's been busy swapping shocks and farkles when he gets some time off. I hear a new 'stitch is on the way too. But now he is waaaay behind in the race to 200k. :p Better get to riding Steve.

Ack!

Means I'm going to have to pick up the pace to keep mine the highest known mileage '05! IIRC, that bike was about 15K behind mine last time I checked.

What brand are those frame sliders. I bought my 05 after it was dropped (bought it for 3k) when I bought the right side tupperware off Ebay it already had a hole drilled for a frame slider.

I was fortunate to get a ride on Steve's 03 several years back. Let me tell all that without a doubt it was the quickest and most stable bike I had ever ridden. It handled like it was running on rails. Steve, glad you were not hurt seriously but saddened that Silver Bullet is going to be laid to rest.
