Radio HowieEven with me posting a link to the photo I took and telling you that's it's a hex screw, you still doubt me? What's up with that?
Seriously, I had to re-look at your photo about 10 times before I realized you were showing the interior of the bag...until I figured that out, I couldn't figure out WHAT you were posting.

Wasn't doubting your veracity...just questioning my eyes!!

From the view point of someone who has sat staring at the '14 on the dealership floor while consumed with the desire to buy, the silver bumpers don't look bad to me. As a complete package the red and silver go better together in person than it looks in the photos.

I originally thought the bumpers should have been black instead of silver. I originally thought the wheels should have been silver instead of black. After I thought some more I realized that I did not care. It still looked better from every angle than the ST1300 that I rode up there. If it were not for the financial issues I would happily have a '14 regardless of the bumper color.

Fish, I've spent the evening thinking about your situation and coming up with a solution to your FJR ES Envy:

Thanks for your concern Howie. I want the '14 FJR more than I can remember wanting any other motorcycle all the way back to the XS-11 and CB900 Custom of 1981. It is calling to me and I don't have the finances to answer.

However, I am confused by your solution. The Valium I understand. The FJR and the Smiley Face I understand. What I don't understand is the benefit of wearing a Banana Hammock and going headfirst into a wood chipper. Please explain, slowly so that I will understand. I really don't even know where to go to buy a banana hammock or Speedo or whatever you call that little garment anyway.

I think that may be the wife that is being fed into the chipper. I believe that the Valium is for the wife also, as a precursor to the chipping. After the wife is out of the way then you can get the red FJR and be happy. That is the only way I can see the equation making any sense.

600 miles on my new 2014 FJR1300A and this is the first I've heard of the "bumper" controversy. Had to go out and look for myself and immediately the question popped into my head:

Who...........cares? This is less than mousenuts.

As to anyone who has asked why it is important that a cruise control regulates at around 100mph vs. 80mph, you have to cross the moonscape of Nevada to understand. Here I have my cruise set to 90mph for nearly the entire state:

I read through this entire thread and don't believe this simple question has been asked/answered....Other than color, is there any difference between the '13A and the '14A?
None.
From a paper exercise that I go through annually to update the https://fjrforum.com/files/fjrcomparo.pdf]FJR Comparison Matrix[/url], other than color and addition of the ES model to the North American line-up, I haven't found any notable differences in the '13 and '14.
There is at least one, and that is the cruise control now regulates to about 100mph, the 2103 only to about 80mph.
Dan
Yes, I believe you are correct, Dan.
One other item that I am not sure about is the little rubber mud flap that attaches in front of the rear tire. I read it was absent in the 2013s even though there are still mounting holes, but my 2014 ES has the flap installed.
Yes, I read about the missing flap and ordered one from BikeBandit (ten bucks or so). It is sitting on my bench right now and is on the list of things I still have to do on the new bike.

One other minor change is the panel covering the battery. On the first 2013s, it took a long time with many panels requiring removal to just get to the battery. Many complained, Yamaha listened and on the later 2013 models (and the 2014) it has been made much easier (two fasteners I think).

Dan

Dan, so your 2014A did not have the mudflap installed like my ES did? Anyone else with a 2014 A and ES able to confirm this?

His info says 2013. And I thought I heard some pain in his voice while describing the battery access.

I show 2013 because there isn't a 2014 choice in the menu. I have a 2014 FJR1300A. And I read about the pain by the early 2013 owners and followed that issue.

Dan

With Lucille patiently waiting outside, parked next to a pair of ST1300s, I went into the exhibit hall to look for myself. I didn't have to look far - the Yamaha display was the first one I saw, and that beautiful Redhead was difficult NOT to notice.

I mounted her and couldn't help noticing that her saddle would need some attention - and I'd be willing.

Then I had a typical Y-chromosome moment: she spoke to me and I heard what she said, but misunderstood what she meant. She said "take me away!" And my blood flow must have been... diverted. I thought she wanted ME, but what she REALLY wanted was for ANYONE to help her escape from the constant, insensitive, clumsy idiots who were constantly scuffing her with their footwear.

Sorry, babe. I'll never be your beast of burden. All I want is....

What's this WINTER stuff some of you talk about??
Okay... since some of you seem to need an edjamacation this is winter:

And before anyone asks, no I won't be experimenting to see if the side vent position makes any significant difference at -34C.

I think the LIONS/EAGLES game last Sunday was worse than that!!
Yeah... almost looked like a CFL game!

Oh right - back on topic - Not sure that it matters much to me what colour the "bag bumpers" are. But to be fair, I can see why a lot of the guys here would be concerned that the chrome might clash with their purses.

Now see, that is one problem that Iris probably wouldn't have.

In the bigger picture, all previous Gen's the bumper and reflectors could be removed for that custom car 'shaved' look, but ya can't do that when there are screw holes in those red bags. Now you have to choose new wave chrome or old school black rubber. Assuming that the old school black rubber bumpers are close enough in shape and size to replace the glitz parts.
