Funny how these threads really start to stagger aimlessly toward the end of their lives...

I really wish it had not turned into a Comparison and Debate that could have (and did) offend. I am sure that the BMW is an awesome and wonderful motorcycle. I would love to ride one. I would even make sure there were pictures proving it happened. BUT! I would not let that poison this thread that has nothing to do with that bike.

I think Top_Speed1 makes some excellent points about the two bikes being for two different purposes. What I think he was trying to get across is that any machine, no matter what it is has its own purpose and usefulness. Enjoy whatever you ride or drive while using it to do the task for which it was purchased.

I also encourage a separate thread about that new Jeep diesel. I am very interested in how good/bad that thing works.

I will not get into a GMC/Ford debate with Zilla. I'd rather ride a pink BMW K1600 to EOM wearing a Hi-Vis T-shirt with "Yamaha Sucks!" across the front.

A BMW is not a Cadillac and an FJR is not a Chevy.
The FJR is just plain better than yer BMW whatever.

If you read palerider's post...that's what he said...and I'm not one to disagree.
I'd say it's a perfect comparison. OK, the FJR is so dependable you say (and I agree!), so OK, it's a Toyota then vs. a Caddy. The Caddy having all the bells and whistles you guys claim as not needed Exactly the same claim goes for owners of Chevy's (or Toyota's) that you don't need all the Cadillac stuff. Their forums are polluted with this same debate

Denial is a terrible thing but understandable here

ACTUALLY you guys are nice!!!, you slam the BMW (a little) BUT far far far far less than they slam the FJR and Connie. I do stick up for the FJR all the time and will continue to do so. For the money you can't beat it and you have to realize apples from oranges. The FJR is good, but there's always better. I agree the BMW costs more, and also more to maintain (DonS however says they're about the same) but you get more with that as well. It's not about drinking koolaid either, it's lifelike and downright reality.

So you guys who love what you love, keep it, stay with it. I'm one who always seeks and tries for the better machine and experience. Hey, someday maybe it will be a Mercedes that will have the toy of my interest, then it will by bye BMW...

...I'm joking about the Mercedes... I think?!

Correct! hence why I still proudly have my FJR (sadly garaged & covered 4 winter tho :( ) . I love my Feej, but when I wanna ride with let's say heated seats or more of a luxury ride, I will hop on that "other" machine.

I'm not preaching to get rid of your FJR and go with (any) other bike. Ride what ya ride and be happy. With me, it takes multiple toys to fulfill this. Yes, you can call me a toy-tard! I'm good with names

If the choice is between a BMW and a 2014 FJR, heated seats ought not to be a deciding factor. Or rather, spending an extra several thousand dollars for a heated seat would be poor economy. A custom-built-just-for-your-butt Bill Mayer saddle with heated seats can be had for the FJR 2014 for a few hundred bucks, leaving you several thousand dollars for gas and motels and beer.

I've looked but could not find one. I have a dark gray one from my old '08 but cannott find one or a replacement top panel to match the red. I've decided to buy an aftermarket trunk in matte black for now to match the seat.

And now back to your regular FJR topic.
GEEEEEEZ,

So whats wrong with a chocolate FJR?

I like it!
There's maybe gonna be a Canuckistanian who would trade you plastic if you got one of them perty red ones............... but truth is Canuckistanians can save big if they buy the US model. BTW, anybody know if the display is switchable to metric?

According to the owners manual it is selectable under Menu item Units.
Yep, that's where you can change it. Many items are customizable in the menu system, including the actual values that are saved for the grip heaters Low, Med and High settings - you select any value from a low of 1 to high of 10.

Alrighty then!! I hereby withdraw all offers of trading the plastic, Canadian brown for the US red.. Trigger finger is getting itchier............

I read through this entire thread and don't believe this simple question has been asked/answered....Other than color, is there any difference between the '13A and the '14A?
None.

From a paper exercise that I go through annually to update the FJR Comparison Matrix, other than color and addition of the ES model to the North American line-up, I haven't found any notable differences in the '13 and '14.
There is at least one, and that is the cruise control now regulates to about 100mph, the 2103 only to about 80mph.

Yes, I believe you are correct, Dan.
One other item that I am not sure about is the little rubber mud flap that attaches in front of the rear tire. I read it was absent in the 2013s even though there are still mounting holes, but my 2014 ES has the flap installed.

And now supposedly there are screws holding the Yamaha Bumper on the bags. Still donno if I believe that one, but someone who has a 14 can verify.
