I'm still a bike owner as of today so will put the event on the calendar. I'll ask my wife to pen it in as well.

I believe the southern portion went well last year and the adjusted schedule will help this year. Maximum amounts of time at scenic spots will need to be watched.

Thumbs up to the Muddy Rudder Restaurant. A very, very nice establishment. Very roomy, classy, and has a large bar as well.

The mid-coast portion of ride will be attempted, as I'll sell Sue on the "getaway" aspect of it, also known as no kids!

First time on the forum in a while and what a nice surprise to see this post right away.

Best wishes to all who have family or friends in Japan. I have several.

Just made my reservations at both motels. It seems I am the first to do so.

If you decide to make your reservations now you will have up until 7 days prior to the stay dates to cancel without a penalty.

Anyone else going?

Thanks for the reminder Fred. I'm waiting for a couple of other friends to commit to make one call but I won't be waiting long.

Fred,

For the benefit of riders coming from a distance, what was the name of the motel that we used last year in Kittery? George

Updated the first post with the following GPS / route info:

Ride Routes

We will be following approximately the same routes that we did last year, with a few minor changes and a few less U-turns. Routes are available in two GPS formats, and plain old printable route sheets:

Chowder routes file in Gamin proprietary GDB Ver3 format

Chowder routes file in generic GPX format

Chowder routes in printable route sheet .PDF file (zipped)

(right click above link, save as, yadda yadda)

On Saturday, we (Joann and I at least) will be following the route I have included around Mt Dessert Island, to include stopping at Thunder Hole, taking the short hike up Gorham Mountain, stop at Jordan Pond House for pop-overs and tea, ride up Cadillac Mt. road, and a couple of short scenic stops on the west side of the island at Seawall, Bass Harbor Lighthouse and Indian Point Blangdon Preserve, which requires a short walk to. I expect this to take pretty much all day. Anyone interested is more than welcome in joining us.

I am 67 years old and my tookus has never been in the passenger seat and I hope never will be.

Not that CJ isn't a very attractive man!

My wife and I and my friend and his wife are reserved Wed-Fri nights. Three bikes/4 people if anyone is keeping track.

I lived in SW Hbr & Trenton up until 2 years ago. When on MDI & for a quick hop, the ‘Quietside’ of MDI has a couple of nice spots, too. Rt102 south to 102A takes you to the south end of MDI. Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is nice – good photo op. Continue the loop east past Seawall Village – awesome view of Cadillac. Stop in @ Hinckley Yachts (my alma mater), Shore Rd in Manset, it’s also a good vantage point with a view straight up Sommes Sound. And without question, Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound has the best lobster on MDI.

Your trip sounds like fun, I may tag along.

What is MDI?

Just an update from me, all.... Haven't had time to call to book rooms, but I'm definitely in and just now deciding whether or not my family is going to come along and perhaps meet me there. Cannot wait to ride!
