BTW: Did you know that adding twists to straps makes them stronger? (Sling loading knowledge from my 101st days)
Are you sure about that dork? From Rappel Master school, knots reduce rope/strap strength an average of 30%. This is due to the bends in the rope. I wonder if twists have the same kind of effect. Besides, if you're cutting it so close that you have to twist the straps in order to eek out the last bit of strength, you're cutting it way to close. Personally, I like my straps twist free!
Sounds crazy I know, but think of heavy lifting cables - braided steel. BTW knotting and twisting have 2 entirely different effects on strength.

- centre stand

- jack under headers

- if you decide to remove the swingam you can then run a rod through and use jack stands

Good luck

I made an A Frame out of 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" pipe with welded tee's.

Looks like a swing set, gives you more room to maneuver around the bike.

When done, it un threads for storage. Actually picked up a truck front end.

I'm an overkill kind of guy, less worry that way.

Saw a bike come off a pipe stand and put a handle bar into a Porsche Carrera 4 door.

If just changing a tire I might use the 3/4 bolt through the header in the doorway.

Using a chain hoist and soft ties.

If you bring it to my place you can use the I beam and hoist in my shop. I'm a good day's ride from FL.

Dont tempt me ! Just went out and fired the bike right up (Hasn't been touched in 6 months)

Just might air up the tires and take her for a ride…

Actually went to Harbor Freight and bit the bullet on a motor cycle jack. This one: 1500 lb. Capacity ATV / Motorcycle Lift

I use a wood stand under the header and the pipe frame. The pipe frame is good for holding up other items
Early on this was often called a "sky hook". The earliest I saw it mentioned in the FJR community was in 2002.

^ I watched the "How to" video on building one. Around $60 IIRC with the use of black iron.

I think this will be my next step tomorrow after the plastics are removed.

I want to see how stable it will be with just the jack/lift and straps.

I have one of those Harbor freight #1500 lifts too. I have never tried it on the FJR but it worked well on my Road Star Warrior and on my KLR

+1 on the Pipe Configuration.

There was post on how to do it years ago when i joined; that's when I built mine.

Has lasted many many uses. When not in use, it makes for a wonderful gear, coat and garage fan holder.

I am leaning that way… and good point about the gear rack.

AND … Hello my Houston witness/friend !

I used a different method. I took advantage of the high ceiling in my garage, so this might not work in one where the ceiling is lower.

Adjustable ladder with good ratchet-type tie-down straps on the passenger peg mounts.

I built 2 of those racks for suspending the bike when it's stripped. They work great. And as Bounce said, when not in use, I turn the feet and hang them up out of way.

Seems a bit harsh. LOL
Normally, it would be, but this is Tony we're taking to. We have to be forceful, or its like talking to a log. This is why we get along.

Not true… We get along because you have a badge, I don't like tickets, you are a good guy who is helpful to others… and …

…well there is the neighbor with yoga pants !!!

Warnings: do not hook the straps to the bike too low, below the center of mass, or run unfastened straps under the rear subframe, make sure they are actually hooked to the frame.

Ask Skooter G why these things are a bad idea. I think he had some scary photos of a bike that flipped while up on the straps with no rear wheel or suspension.

Oh, you had to have been here for that. Picture three guys in a garage, diligently working to change a tire and do some standard bike maintenance. Suddenly, a hawt neighbor with a huge rack, wearing a spaghetti string top, and great yoga pants shows up in the driveway, wanting to talk. We all had to pick our jaws up off the floor. It went from three men doing work to three middle school boys smashing their thumbs with hammers. No good picture was taken. It happened way to fast!
