Warnings: do not hook the straps to the bike too low, below the center of mass, or run unfastened straps under the rear subframe, make sure they are actually hooked to the frame.
Ask Skooter G why these things are a bad idea. I think he had some scary photos of a bike that flipped while up on the straps with no rear wheel or suspension.
I use the top rails that run down either side, underneath the rider's seat.

Ken is right. You only need to sling the bike up if you'll be removing the relay arm, which requires the center stand be removed. To do forks and/or rear shock the bike can just stay on the center stand.

BUT... if you already have a sky hook and don't like jacking up on the headers and (possibly) bits of the lower fairing...

I look at it as a preference since I already have the sky hook.

Actually in my haste, I am risking the same fate. Thank goodness the bike is losing weight

by the minute.

Now I need to get some more weight off the front. Please no one breathe to hard around the bike.

John d, how'd you get the rear up on that cross beam?

I used a jack as shown below with a block of wood under the swingarm before the pivot is disassembled. The beam is 2x8 spruce.

Raise the jack, slip in the 2x8, lower and remove the jack.

You would need a way of keeping the front wheel from rolling forward.

I use the same block of wood on the jack for lifting the front end up. The two smaller pieces of wood fit around the header pipes and support the engine directly.
