Geez the rocks are falling already. Highway 2 https://www.flickr.com/photos/wsdot/4282308940/. I hope we don't have another falling rock year..
Holly Molly! But come on, you COULD still squeeze by on the left there, albeit very slowly...The roads are pretty scummy with gravel and debris. I did the back roads today ( carpenter and the rest into Granite Falls and I had to keep the speed down, but as always it was still great!
Definitely nice and twisty in spots. Leavenworth is about 90 minutes away for me, so this is a fun run to make on those summer week day evenings...Weekends kinda stink with the eastbound traffic in the mornings and the massive westbound back-ups on Sunday afternoons.I have not ridden this road on a bike yet, but from driving it in my car I remember this to be a nice twisty one, right?

Looks can be deceiving. The rock left a 5 foot deep hole all the way across the road. Unless you like climbing up the side through the dirt and gravel, it was not passable according to those that saw it first hand.
The road through Leavenworth's OK, although very busy and heavily travelled/enforced at times.Holly Molly! I guess that sounds like what I remember. It's been a while since I was in that area. Might not be so long before I get back there though now that I have my FJR..... :lol:The road through Leavenworth's OK, although very busy and heavily travelled/enforced at times.
The nice twisty road you're probably remembering is Highway 20 - the "89 Miracle Miles" running east from Marblemount. Some fairly technical stuff with lots of elevation change, plus tons of higher speed sweepers and with views to die for!
The rest of the story can be found here. Ouch!A little late in following up.... However, local paper @ this site --> https://www.wenatcheeworld.com/news/2010/ja...canyon-reopens/ mentions the rock fell approximately 1000 feet. It took three charges of dynomite and a large hammer to break up the rock. Pic on the website shows another view of how deep and wide the hole in the road actually was.
