I posted this over at stn. As I now ride an fjr & last Sunday I rode to the Dairy (and then to some great northwest Connecticut riding all day) with a couple of members here. Actually I met Skip (Kawi) & Bob (fjr) for the 1st time that morning. Normally I'm a solo rider but really enjoyed the day riding together.

Anyway, here is the (short) story on Marcus Dairy:

I have been stopping on & off at Marcus Dairy for over 20 years on Sunday mornings. Located right off RT 84 & close to RT 7 in Danbury CT, the Dairy's proximity to some really nice roads to ride made it a great starting point as well as a place to see other riders / bikes. A typical Sunday would have 100's of riders come & go. I would usually ride in at 8:30, have breakfast, bs for a while & be on my way by 9:30 or so. It has become a real happening.

Super Sundays were born there many years ago. The Dairy would close off the rear parking lot & have vendor spaces and charge admission to this area. Some of the proceeds benefitted local charities. These Super Sundays eventually became a 3 or 4 time a year event. If the weather was nice it was usual to have many 1000's of bikes show up. Several years ago I started taking photographs of riders & their rides and posting them on my website.

This past Sunday (Oct 12, 2008) may have been the Dairy's final Super Sunday as the word on the street is the property is going to be turned into some kind of strip mall and the existing buildings knocked down soon. There were 1000's of bikes there.

I have posted my 2008 photos of the Dairy here: https://www.molaver.org/marcus_dairy/index.html

The last 60 or so of this group are from Sunday.

Shots going back to 2003 can be found here: https://www.molaver.org/md1.htm

If any fjrforum members see themselves or their bikes and would like a high res version of the shot, please email me and I will email it back to you. The ones shot this year are very high resolution and will usually print well to poster size.

That was an awesome day. My buddy Skip wanted to go to Marcus Dairy because it was possibly the last event. He had arranged for us to ride with ctfjr. Never met him before. Nice guy, full of fun. (He didn't like my skirt though.) I had never been to the Dairy and I am sure glad we went. There were so many bikes, more than a thousand just guessing. New, old, restorations, trikes, choppers, drag bikes, exotics, you name it, it was there.

The bike that I thought was the coolest was a bike with a side car. I don't know what kind of bike, I just caught a glimps as it drove by. But the driver was in the side car and there was nobody on the motorcycle! The reason for this was the side car had a ramp on the back and was wheelchair accesible. The guy wheeled himself into the side car, put up the ramp, and drove the bike from his wheelchair. Da-am.

There were vendors booths selling all kinds of stuff. Parts, decals, leathers, (allot of cows gave their lives for this event) boots, gloves, choppers, you name it, it was there. I am so glad we went to see this.

Yup, and purty girls too!

The rest of the day we burned some fuel in Western CT and enjoyed the foliage which was also excellent. It was a fantastic day.

We should make arrangements to all ride together maybe later in the fall or the spring. I was at the Dairy meeting friends there too this past Sunday. Didn't see any other FJR's though!
