For me distance was a issue, at 2,650 miles direct to Knoxville. That's five days out and five days back
really? when did you switch to a Harley? :p

that parses as 3 days of decent riding and not wasting time in a hotel (4 - 7am and 5 - 10pm can be riding time, too).
Ya know, ifin I could get the wife to go I just might show up on a Harley. But then it would have to be within a hundred miles. :p

I need my beauty sleep ya know, 870 mile days would cut into that a bit to much! :(

Just thought if this...

I better get busy NOW to get my Passport, Since i have procrastinated on getting it for the last 2 years!

NAFO 2012 or BUST! (and not you Bust! :****: )
Adam, it's not as difficult immediately after 9/11. Still, don't procrastinate!

Let's see...NAFO in beautiful British Columbia...and Barb will likely be there, too!?!? That settles it, I'm going! :yahoo:

Beware B.C.'s wooden bridges, especially in the rain:

Fun to read this thread. Was unable to make NAFO due to moving and prior committments.

Having been involved in a number of organizations and their meetings over the years I tend to perhaps oversimplify, so bear with me.

When you gather 300 people in one place, you have a far different meeting facility problem than you do for a smaller gathering of say 125 people. At the smaller number you can take over a small to medium sized motel that's relatively inexpensive and also test the limits of their kitchen or even have a meal catered in, but you can usually work things out for a reasonable amount of money.

At 300 people you're faced with renting one of the "major" hotels. These guys are always expensive, perhaps not with the rooms per say, but the catering folks are really good at being costly. After all we would all want to have a meal or two together......which is where the "gotcha" comes in. I've seen this many times over the years.

For my money, if I want to see the folks on the west coast I'm able to determine when their meet is and where. Should I want to attend, I'll sign up and go.

Likely, I won't ever attend NAFO. The last time I signed up for NAFO was in 2007. Just prior to leaving for the event I had to have a STINT installed which precluded my attendance. That particular set of organizers said "no refunds for any reason" so I was unable to get any money back. However after the event they bragged about how much money they "gave" to their favorite charities. Didn't exactly make me feel warm and wanting to attend additional events, so I didn't and likely won't.

I agree with Mr. Ashe, until Yamaha decides to support this type of motorcycle at a national event, I'd be in favor of not having them.

If we canceled all of the smaller FJR events to make the NAFA better it definitely would be..

We might get another 50 to 100 to show up for the NAFA but that would mean about 3 or 4 hindered would be missing all FJR events that year.

That kind of defeats the purpose of having the regional to start with.

To put it into a different perspective it would be kind of like Ford saying the want to sell more Mustangs so they stop selling every other Ford that they normally offered and only sold the Mustangs.. Well at the end of one year the Mustang sales have doubled but overall Ford really screwed up because total sales are down and the next year they have less loyal owners that might purchase a Ford.
I see what you are saying but we also have regional rides in the northeast going on throughout the year besides EOM. Cat's & Dak's, Green & Whites, Covered bridges of NH and also the ride to the Rock among other spontaneous postings to ride. I would have no problem dropping EOM in favor of NAFO in the year that it happens. I just thought I would post the Idea. Doesn't mean it's any good.

I think for Yamaha to support any Venue it would have to cover all makes and models of which I don't have an issue with either. I don't see this happening any time soon due to the economy. Well I will go back to my machining since that is what I do best.

Wow I just checked the distance from my house to possible 2012 NAFA site and At My preferred driving mileage per day that would make a 7 day ride for me. If I upped it a little its still at least a 5 day ride and a lot further for the owners in the southeastern area of the U.S. I am still going to do my best to attend.

Just a friendly reminder to everyone that we now need a passport for Canada and a passport is good for like 10 years so you might as well get one now.. You never know when something will come up like a trip or a cruse, to bad you can't bring your FJR on a cruse, I would really enjoy that one.

Yebbutt...dem dere Canuckians is great hosts and hostesses! Annnddd you'd get to ride the Rockies, both the U.S. variety and the Canadian. By all means, ride the Icefield Parkway (Banff NP and Jasper NP). Heck, meeting Barb & MEM is worth the miles and the price of the "E"-ticket!

There is no such thing as Canadian English. We Anglo-Canadians speak the Queen's English.

It's Zed not Zee whatever the hell that is.

Colour is spelled correctly along with a number of other words that the Yanks have *******ized along the way.

When you order a pint at the bar you don't get a girly-man 16 oz but the proper 20 oz quaff of ale.

Come on up to CFR in 2011 and NAFO 2012 and we can point out the many other deficiencies that inflict our neighbours to the south.

Like Blue and Bleue Bill? I noticed they only do that in that one province on the Labrats beer cans.

Tom (the chicken rider) corrected my mis-pronunciation of that word...

Exactly! I think Colonel Pogue nailed it in Full Metal Jacket.

"We are here to help the United States, because inside every Yankee there is a Canadian trying to get out. It's a hardball world, son. We've gotta keep our heads until this FJR Gen craze blows over. "

You only pronounce it "Labrats" when you are in this condition...

Quite right. Thank you for the correction. There I go being the polite Canadian again :blushsmiley:

Please remember that my language abilities were corrupted from listening to Yankee broadcasts from Buffalo.

As to another pint, I prefer a double of Crown Royal (neat) over a pint.

Hope I didn't offend anyone in Canada. I lived so close to Canada when I was growing up that when I was 8 years old me and my brothers used to ride bicycle to Canada and back, (about 6 miles). We had a few friends on both sides of the border that did the Peace Gardens in North Dakota.
